    2011 Chevrolet Caprice 9C3 PPV

Exclamation First surplus Chevrolet Caprice to be sold to the public

The State of Minnesota is selling a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice PPV (9C1) with 28,000 miles to the general public. It's stated in the auction that this former patrol vehicle was operated by a government agency that lost its funding. Excellent condition, no repairs needed.

As far as I know this is the very first operable Caprice in the United States to be released to the public as government surplus out of the roughly 8,000 Caprice PPV's currently in operation.

Auction is at this site: https://www.minnbid.org

The sale ends October 1, 10:15 AM CDT.

    Thanks

Not quite sure about specifics, but it is not hard to find used ones on AutoTrader. This is nothing really that new.

28,000 miles? That's it? Most departments wont get rid of a cruiser until at least 75k to 100k.

Actually it is. Auto Trader cars are usually either dealer fleet inventory that's unsold and been titled as used to get around the GM restriction on no new sale to the public, fleet demos, or a very few used cars from private citizens. Not government entities selling directly. We do watch Auto Trader very carefully, the MN state sale is a first.

Probably has something to do with losing funding?

Low mileage could mean a ton of idling, short trips, stops and starts.

    Road salt much?

So the I guess the Caprice is a flop.

Re: First surplus Chevrolet Caprice to be sold to the public

I wouldn't be surprized if you see other municipalities in the bidding process, but a civilian will likely be willing to pay more. In general, squads are very well maintained with regular checks and changes for tires, fluids, belts, etc. That's a big part of how taxi companies are getting 300k-400k fom the CVPIs.

Is the Caprice available only to law enforcement or can any fleet buyer get them? I can see a car like this used for livery service, too, but when it's new. Add a nice set of alloy wheels, remove the Caprice nameplate and bowties, chrome the door handles, exhaust tips, and fender vents and you have a roomy, classy, large sedan, especially if you start with the 9C3.
Buy American. Buy Ford. So say we all!
