Question does AC supposed to quit at idle in hot weather ?

WE just bought our 2014 Chevy Equinox awd about 3 weeks ago, and still learning about how everything works on it. We took a trip to Boise today, and the temps was around 98 degrees. We stopped for a sub sandwich, and when we came out we found we were a tad early for the doctor appointment, so we sat in the car with the motor and AC running, but the AC just blew warm air When we left to go to the doctor and got up to about 35mph, the AC kicked in. We had to stop at a traffic light that took forever to change, and it once again started blowing warm air. I've never had a vehicle do this before. Is this the way it's supposed to work ??

is there a button marked ECO in front of the transmission shifter? If so, press it so the light is NOT illuminated. This is economy mode and what it's designed to do is save fuel. Part of that design is to reduce air conditioner power. If that doesn't do it, I'd recommend having a service technician or mechanic look at it. Good luck!

Another possibility is that the second radiator fan (that turns on when the a/c is in operation or the engine reaches higher temperatures) is not functioning. Once you drive and reach 35 mph, ambient air passing through the radiator and a/c condenser provides enough cooling to enable the a/c to be turned on by the car's computer.

Excellent advice above - have it looked at by a good mechanic or technician.

The light was on when I turned the key, and wouldn't go off when I clicked on it, so figured I needed to start the engine and the light still stayed on when I clicked it, so apparently, I'll have to take it in to the dealer and have hem look at it, thanks for the tip !!

I agree with the above, either something to do with the eco mode, or your fan is not working to keep air moving past the condenser.

Ya to all the above. AC should keep blowing cold no matter what.

That kinda changes with the start-stop crap, as if it's not already annoying enough.......

Should do - if the air-con requirement is enough, it should restart the engine.

Put the temp controls set to Low and the Start Stop feature will never shut off the engine. Start Stop only stops the engine with the AC on if it is on Eco mode and the temperature in the cabin is at or below the temp listed on the controls. That is how it works in my Malibu.

Absolutely 100% wrong; not at all how it works in the Cruze. It may delay and/or shorten the event, but they still happen every time you come to a stop.

Re: does AC supposed to quit at idle in hot weather ?

Ok, I wasn't looking at the right place for the light. Found it on the screen beteen the tach and speedo I found that when I'm sitting for any period of time with the ac running and the ECO light off,(maybe 5-10 minutes), it will start blowing warm air. I've never owned a car that would do that. On the other vehicles I've owned that had ac, they never stopped blowing cold air. Must be something else that needs to be addressed to fix this problem. In our part of the country, we get many 90-100 degree days, so this is an important problem.
