The Corvette Assembly Plant Is Now Building Saleable C8 Corvette Stingrays

The Corvette Assembly Plant Is Now Building Salable C8 Corvette Stingrays

For those of us who have been following the development of the C8 Mid-Engine Corvettes, this is some welcome news! But please! Don’t call your dealer to ask where your car is as these new “Salable” cars aren’t for you and me…yet!

Up until this week, all the 2020 Corvettes we’ve seen from the Reveal, the C8 Dealers Tour, and special events like Corvettes at Carlisle have all had an “EX’ at the end of the VIN. The “EX” cars are considered Experimental and are labeled as such with the “EX” on the VIN. In almost all cases, these cars can’t be sold to the public and will be destroyed once all the testing is completed.

Currently, the C8 Corvettes are being assembled at the plant in limited quantities or “buckets” as they are called when they send a batch of them down the line. Officially, the cars produced for you and me won’t start production until early December. But this is another important threshold that the team has reached in the development cycle.

Awesome! Does anyone know what cars are tested when they are allowed to print their first drive reviews? Obviously they are driven in advance, so are they driving these test production vehicles or do they drive the actual ones that your or I can buy?

I'd be crying if I watched the EX cars getting crushed I think.

Yeah, that will definitely be a sad sight.

I really can't wait to see the first reviews of the C8 vs. a Ferrari similarly equipped, I want to see what that $200k+ over the price of the Vette buys, other than an exclusive badge.

I predict the reviews will be good at first and then the c8 will be nit picked incessantly. It’s a GM, so that’s a handicap right off the bat

IMO they'll say "incredible value, needs more power, and can never be a Ferrari."
While most will believe that the C8 sets a new standard for advanced engineering and great performance at an affordable price, with the high performance versions being the dynamic equals (better?) of the high-price hypercars.

I'm expecting to hear a lot about lower door panels. Like the Camaro, we'll have a world beating car, but the press will prefer to focus on something that no one would care about if all the auto mags never made it a point of contention.

There's a lot of truth to that. Most all the manufacturers do certain things the same way, but because it is GM on the pedestal so to speak, they get bashed for it.

Hurt? No. For all the people who only provide criticism to GM under the guise of "helping" them, it's time to put up or shut up. GM just did something amazing, more so than any other manufacturer on the planet. If you can't say something good about the C8, meaning tell GM "hey, good job", then you aren't trying to "help" GM, you simply just don't like them and now said "help" comes into the true meaning of what it really is - trolling.

But no one has said anything negative about the C8...all this is coming off as whining about something nobody said.

Actually there has been some whining. I've noted whining about cheap wheels, lack of performance data (for a car with no production VIN's I might add), some complaints about production volumes, and probably some other stuff I've not seen since I block a number of users.
