Consumer Reports ranks Cruze 1LT 7th

Just got my September 2011 Consumer Reports. The rankings for small sedans (the points given by CR are in the parenthesis):

    2. Nissan Sentra 2.0 SL (74) [27 mpg]
    3. Subaru Impreza 2.5i (72) [24 mpg ]
    4. Toyota Corolla LE (71) [32 mpg]
    5. Kia Forte EX (71) [28 mpg]
    6. Mazda3 Touring (70) [28 mpg]
    7. Chevrolet Cruze 1LT (69) [26 mpg ]
    8. Ford Focus SE (68) [28 mpg]
    9. Chevrolet Cruze LS (67) [26 mpg]
    10. Mitsubishi Lancer ES (62) [25 mpg]
    11. Honda Civic LX (61) [30 mpg]
    12. Volkswagen Jetta SE (60) [25 mpg]

The rankings are overall with this particular issue rating the Focus, Forte, and Civic.

The highs for the Focus are ride, handling, solid feel , crash test results, hatchback versatility.

How in the hell did they only get 26 MPG out of the 1.4T?

When you have to rush from emergency microwave oven evaluations to emergency washing machine evaluations, then you might understand, LOL.

It is so sad and pathetic how little access we have in N.A. to accurate reporting and product evaluations.

The lack of professional standards in the media, worldwide, is really getting annoying.

So its 3 pts between 3rd and 7th - this is a tough segment to compete in and basically any normal person would realize the CR cant hide the facts that the difference between all of these is almost neglible - though they try so you keep buying magazines.

    Fixed it for you.

Apparently being middle of the pack in a CR comparo ain't so bad. The Cruze is currently outselling all others on the list with exception to the Crapolla and Civic YTD.

What's really amazing is when you compare J.D. Power rankings vs Consumer Reports....

Obviously the two are not comparing drivers on the same planet.

The Honda Civic has also scored too low to be recommended by CR. A slap in Honda's face for coming up with such a half assed redesign.

    From Consumer Reports:

Ride comfort and noise: Frequent short pitches mar the ride. Even on the highway, the ride is unsettled. Distinct road noise fills the cabin on the highway, dominating over hushed wind noise and a smooth engine hum.

Handling: The Civic's sporty character is gone. Body lean sets in early, and the steering is overly light and devoid of feedback.

Interior fit and finish: Cost-cutting is apparent throughout the interior of our Civic LX, from the cheap headliner and ubiquitous hard plastics to the unlined trunk lid. Several gaps and misalignments were all too noticeable.
    Fail.

Here's a radical idea: Test drive a damn car to see if YOU will like it and what know-it-all, obnoxious, sports car/handling-obsessed auto magazines/media think be damned.

    Sheesh.

I think the Cruze is a good car. CR disagrees? Guess what, I don't give a damn.

    Perfectly said.

I was thinking, though: Have I ever met someone that actually puts faith in Consumer Reports opinions?

    The answer is yes.

    Bingo, you win the prize!

They don't like the 200 either. I say tell someone who gives a damn about their opinion.

    Funny.
    And pathetic.

I believe that politicans and media "reporters" are about the only two professions today that do not require any sort of licensure, skillset, or other qualifications that they both demand of others.
