    Question Cobalt= Chevelle?

Do you think that GM could/should take the current Cobalt, stretch the wheelbase, drope the wings and make it a RWD/FWD Chevelle replacement? The original Chevelles always had sedan and coupe versions, so what would it hurt to just fix up the current Cobalt and re-name it Chevelle? Make RWD an option on the LTZ, FWD standard for the LS/base and RWD standard for the SS. Give it a couple different V6's and a few V8's to choose from.

Give a few Chevelle features- new headlights, body lines etc. I think it could be done. How about you?

    Re: Cobalt= Chevelle?

No auto maker in their right mind would make a body with 2 different bases. that's crazy. Mainly because engines can't be switched out and interchanged from one base to another. And i don't think that just stretching the wheelbase would work. Anyway the Cobalt was made as a replacement to the Cavalier. So no i don't think it could or would be done

they already have it, And they have had a car with 2 different bases. Its called the malibu. They could put a v8/ RWD in that, make it a bit better looking like this) and call it CHEVELLE

Back in the 60s The malibu name was a Higher up trim level on the chevelle, but after the chevelle was cut, the malibu became its own car.

Epsilon cannot go RWD. AWD, yes, but no RWD. It would be nice for the Maxx to get AWD and with the 3.9.

How are you going to get your FWD->RWD transforming machine over to GM HQ?

It's a theoretical idea, it doesn't need to happen, and probably won't.

    Re: Cobalt= Chevelle?

If I was going to daydream about the return of the Chevelle, I'd do it with a unique platform, not a Cobalt.

    Re: Cobalt= Chevelle?

while I understand that it was just a theoretical idea, I agree with Admiral in that if your gonna go far enough to think of what car/platform it could go on, it might as well be feasible with the drivewheels etc. on that platform.

They could use modified KAPPA chassis to fit under the malibu, to make a chevelle.

I wish my dad didn't sell it when I left for college I would've loved to deck it out with all the goodies, that I can actually afford now...

And I would be very upset if they rebadged a cobalt as a Chevelle. Hell, I was upset when they came out with the previous Malibu. Come to think of it, I didn't like it when they imported a corolla, and called that a Nova. Dang it GM, stop ruining good nameplates

If there is any car that is deserving of a Chevelle name, it would be a Chevy version of the GTO/Holden, etc.
