    Chevy Sonic

    Hi all,
I've recently moved to NYC and I'm looking for a smaller car to replace my Malibu as finding street parking is a major pain in the groin. I like everything about to Sonic as it seems to be the ideal car for me living in a big city, although I'm curious if a more powerful engine is in the pipeline for this car. Any information would be appreciated!

I have the 1.4T and find it MORE than powerful for traveling on the freeway and streets. I do have a little turbo lag, especially when I have to punch it cause some stupid semi driver is traveling in the "on lane" of the freeway and my entrance ramp is only 400' long (of visibility of the freeway).

Just some thought, try looking at the All Electric Spark, with the tax credit its roughly the same price as a higher end Sonic. I say that because it is a true city car. Happy Car Hunting.

As for a more powerful engine, I've read that the 1.6T is making its way into the lineup for the 2014 MY. but it's just a rumor.

I have a 2012 Sonic LTZ with the 1.8L. I am happy with the car and it has adequate power for what I ask it to do. Could it have more power? Always. Does it need it? No, especially if you will be doing mostly city driving.

My wife just bought a Sonic a little over a Month ago. A very good car. Small on the outside and fairly big on the inside. We got an LT model 1.8L with a number of added options. The car moves supprisingly well and is quiet on the highway. This car is much lighter than a Malibu (600 - 700lbs lighter) so it doesn't take a lot of power to make it go. I would imagine the 1.4 turbo engine in this moves it very well. I've been impressed with ours so far.

Thanks for the input, I suppose I'll give it a test drive first.

I'm happy with my Soul. About the same size and maneuverability. Enjoy your search!

Why don't you get a Cruze? We have a Cruze and have no issues with parking.

I test drove the 1.8 LTZ auto, and power is decent. Guess I could live with it for now.

The cruze was kinda... meh to me. The Sonic seems to have more personality, plus it is smaller and seems easier to maneuver.

    Thanks for the help all!

Yes, the Sonic is a great car to drive around the city, much more so than the Spark or Cruze. Get the 1.4t and manual trans. You will not be disappointed.
