I was reading the recently reposted CC on the 1976 Laguna and I noticed some discussion about the Chevelle SS in the comments. There seemed to be some debate on whether the car was called the Chevelle SS, the Malibu SS, whether it was a distinct model or an option package? Well to answer in short, all of the above. Even though much has been written about the Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sports, the history is still unclear to some. So, let’s do an overview of the Chevrolet’s intermediate Super Sport models.

Seems to be a wel-researched article.
I just wonder what they will call the new Chevelle SS, I vote for SS376!

A buddy had one of rare early 1970 SS396 375hp/4spd cars, before they obsoleted it due to the 454's, and it was amazing.

But it was 'Chevelle SS', and that's all there was to it.

Yes, GM's Vehicle Strategy Sets for the rwd products, sized from C to E classes is called the VSS-R, one of 4 VSS platforms that will begin in 2018 and be complete by 2025, when nearly all vehicles will be developed under the VSS format.
Fwd becomes VSS-F, rwd is VSS-R, trucks are VSS-T, and CUVs are VSS-S.
So the new Chevelle SS will be a VSS-R, E class size. Look for it in 2019-2020

I vote for Chevelle. Malibu has become associated with being too pedestrian and therefore bogged down IMO.

Will be awesome if it comes to fruition. The Challenger is the perfect size for day to day livability so I'm hoping GM will eventually have a competitor. However I will believe it when I can buy one.
