Exclamation Buddy can't decide if he wants a Cobalt or Ion

My buddy is getting a car and like the Cobalt, specifically he wanted the Cobalt SS. The only problem is that he can't get the SS right now, cause its only sold in the east coast right now and slowly coming towards the west coast. I told him about the Ion Red Line and went and test drove that, and he loved it. Now he wants the Ion Red Line too. So now he can't decide which one he wants. Which one should he get?

He should wait until he sits in and drives a Cobalt, and then decides. What are the prices of each car respectively? Which one does he like better after he's driven both of them? Which one does he think he's going to like most later on after the novelty wears a bit thinner? Which one suits him as a person better? See if that helps him some. Just tell him not to rush.

The cars are essentially the same price give or take $500.
Remember... Saturns are world reknowned for their customer service and dealer satisfaction... and service after you purchase the car. You're not going to get any of that from Chevy.

They are both really good, fast cars.

For me? I'd go Red Line because of the simple fact that after-purchase service is world class and the car will be more unique on the roads.

I disagree. My Chevrolet dealer really took good care of me when I took my 2005 Malibu in for service (and the 2004 Malibu before it, which I bought at another dealer).

    Anyway...I vote Cobalt.

Another vote for the Cobalt SS. Higher quality, and IMO better looking.

Re: Buddy can't decide if he wants a Cobalt or Ion

Tell him that when the Cobalt was being designed, GM was taking into account all of the customer complaints regarding the ION. The 2005 ION wasn't able to fix all of those concerns and complaints. So I'd go with the Cobalt. Besides, I like the look of the interior more.

Cause Ive sat in an Ion, and Ive sat in a Cobalt. Ion isn't know for its high fit and finish and tight body pannels.

Cobalt!!. The interior is a lot nice and it is normal. The Ion is too wierd for me just like the Scion models.

My buddy likes the seats in the Ion Red Line, will the Cobalt SS have the same seats?

IF its the SS supercharged, you can get it if u opt for the competition package (or whatever its called) which includes an LSD, boost guage and the recaros. The Ion Redline has the recaros standard (but boost guage and LSD will be in its competition package).

Otherwise no (at least thats as far as i know).

I dunno which i would choose...
the SS has the better interior (the ion is fugly with the center pod, and overall interior too), i would also make a guess that the interior of the ion is cheaper in overall atmosphere also. But the Redline has the plastic body (no dents) and 4 doors (more convenient).
I like the redline exterior a little better (its a little more distinctive) but thats just my opinion.

Re: Buddy can't decide if he wants a Cobalt or Ion

If money isn't an issue and he's patient, I'd go with the Cobalt. However, it seems likely he might be able to find a 2004 Red Line out there somewhere. If so, I'd guess he could get it for $17k or even less. Last time I checked on carsdirect.com, a dealer would sell you a Cobalt SS for $21,500 in NJ, though I have seen it as low as $19,200.

Also, I checked a while back with Geico on insuring a Red Line, and amazingly it was substantially cheaper than my 2002 Civic Si to insure. I'm sure that's because of the plastic panels (and maybe the Saturn name).

The obvious choice here is the Cobalt.
