    2019 Cruze heavily decontented

In famous bean counter GM fashion, the 2019 Cruze loses leather seating and chrome trim even on Premier models, passenger side seatback map pockets, rear reading lights and more. So, to add any new features, they have to delete lots of other things. There is a deep cultural problem within GM that is many decades old that tells them they just don't have to compete.

    Start/Stop Override, hurray!
Z-link suspension now included with RS package, yay!
LS Convenience Package makes cruise and steering-wheel controls available on LS, nice!

Stick shift gone (except maybe LS, it says automatic is not Standard??), boo!

I’ll be checking out the LS Cruze hatch this fall, if there’s a manual tranny available. If not, I’m happy with my Sonic...or maybe a 2019 1.4T LS Sonic with manual.

    Some decent new features!

Deleting the real leather is puzzling, though my guess is most people won't be able to tell the difference between the fake vs. real. And the fake will probably be a lot more durable.

Still not making safety package standard. What happened to not just competing, but winning? Honda and Toyota have already gone down this path with the corolla and the civic.

I wonder if they fixed the sun-visor that slides/extends, aka actually blocks something other than the A-pillar from the side.

    I do see this!?

"(AVJ) Keyless Open on front doors replaces (ATH) Keyless Open on all 4 doors"

Those that have keyless understand this advantage GM had............ HAD I've learned to live without the function on the rear doors, but as someone that almost always puts something in the rear seat; laptop or daughter, it is handy to un-lock or lock from any door handle.

Need to see them before I could make a statement like that, but I recall the Vinyl/Pleather/Leatherette & Cloth seats they were putting in the previous generation Malibu screamed cheap.

Modern Vinyl is superior to cheap leather, which is mainly plastic and chemicals anyway.

Ha! Low end leather is the equivalent of hamburgers made of pink slime.

I see your point, but at least the old Driver Confidence package (with a bunch of electronic gizmos) is now included in Convenience package. We’ll see about pricing. Plus automatic climate is now standard on LT.

In the U.S. market, GM for the past 40 years always considered traditional compact sedans and hatchbacks as little more than CAFE compliance cars, and invested only the minimum amount necessary to design, engineer, and produce these vehicles.

That's why the current gen Chevy Cruze's main attractions are the "deals": dealer & customer rebates and subvented leases. MY 2019 Cruze, with the de-contenting described in this thread, will continue that tradition. Honda's product design and marketing philosophy with Civic is the opposite. A representative for American Honda said, "Our marketing approach is to sell on the merits of the product as opposed to selling the deal, and we invest in the product."

GM does play to win, but in other market segments such as sports cars, pickup trucks, SUVs, and battery electric vehicles.

Agreed: LT now has automatic climate and remote vehicle start standard, Start/Stop Deactivation is now standard across the board, electronic safety gizmos that people seem to want now included in the common Convenience package, little stuff like two USB ports instead of one, hey look updated infotainment system, Z-link now included in common RS package...diesel engine still available.

I would buy a stick-shift car myself but for the vast majority of buyers these are improvements...
