Re: 2018 Impala updates and changes

I was disappointed too. Including the 8 speed would have possibly helped both engines deliver a bit better performance and even possibly higher economy figures which are really lacking. The V6 is rated for only 18/28 which is second only to the Taurus for lowest V6 full size car and the base 2.5 is rated 22/30 which is behind some V6's for highway numbers. Some freshened wheels, new interior colors and or interior revisions and maybe tweaks to the front and back would have gone a long way to keep this model fresh. I also question the move to all LS and LT models using the cheap grade vinyl harsh fake cloth seats as that was one of the things I disliked about my 2017 rental LT. The LS currently has nicer feeling all cloth versions. It's as if they are forcing you to move up to the costly leather seat option or pay far more for the LTZ model. I'm fearing that with the extra added equipment prices are going to surge even higher than they already are and if GM had a clue they would keep the current pricing structure pretty much as is. I also wish they could have thrown in either alloy wheels or body colored exterior mirror caps on the LS to make it look less cheap. This is their flagship for 2018 after all!

There are other weird omissions, like no LED tail lamps, even on the Premier trim. And GM's color & trim department seriously needs to up their exterior color game. They have more drab shades of grey than any one car company should and precious few vibrant colors, yet they have the gall to charge extra for most metallic colors they offer. Ford, Honda and FCA have beautiful color options that have GM beat and most are free of charge.

I'm just glad the LGX hasn't infected the Impala yet. For that, we should all be grateful.

What is the problem of LGX? Deactivation?

LFX also has deactivation, and at best, 305hp.

LGX has, supposedly, better controls, and makes more power, up to 335hp. Generally, it has gone into Cadillac, Buick, the new Regal, and Camaro, so the best of the 2 3.6L's.

I have not heard of problems specific to the LGX, just some valve coking, the same as all GDI engines.

    Cylinder deactivation.
Start/Stop that can't be turned off.

Those are two annoying technologies that save almost no fuel but significantly degrade the reliability of the engine as well as owner satisfaction.

Re: 2018 Impala updates and changes

I think it's really cheap on GM's part that this car, which is now their flagship, doesn't have a glove box light and that you have to pay extra for an auto day night mirror and carpeted floormats on the top line Premier. It also would have been nice for a transmission change to get the mileage up a bit on both engines without the added costs of fully switching over to the new LGX and 9 speed. The 2.5 should be seeing 22/32 and the 3.6 19/30 at the very least. I also would have added auto day night mirror and carpeted floor mats as std on the LT with no price increase from last year. These cars car already easily go over 42K which is too much.

Another change I would make is bringing the brownstone interior color back with matching brown steering wheel and carpet and make the light wheat color available on the LT

Re: 2018 Impala updates and changes

Yesterday I got a call from my wife saying the 18 Impala was doing weird readings on the display which is directly in front of her in the front dash board. It was showing a blank screen. I had her try the up down left and right arrows and nothing sounded correct to me over the phone. It finally showed software info and offered a choice of 1 or 2 so I told her to take it to the dealer. They fiddled for a while and told her they would need to keep it for a while and try reloading the software.
After having the 2017 Traverse cause so much trouble with the electronics that she finally said she no longer trusted it, we just bought this Impala in October of 17 and now the troubles are starting in it now. I'm starting to get discouraged with the troubles new Chevies are causing me. She's hinting about looking at something else already.

I find it very cheap of GM to charge extra for most of the paint choices, Sierra pick-ups have an additional charge also compared to their twin Silverado, no way to increase sales !
