2013 Convertible ZL1 or wait for 2014 Stingray Convertible?

My wife and I really want a date car but it's not an easy decision. Both the 2013 ZL1 Convertible (I prefer the 2013 rear/front fascia over the 2014 Camaro) and the 2014 Stingray Corvette Convertible look beautiful. Which one would likely be a collectors car or at least carry more Chevrolet heritage into the future?

I don't believe the ZL1 coupe or convertible changes for the 2014 model year so take your time and look and if possible drive both to decide.

Be aware the fifth generation Camaro will be quite a bit larger than the 6th generation Camaro we will probably see in 2015 calendar year.

    Both great cars for sure.

I'd suggest if you need the two jump seats out back.....if so buy the ZL1 ......great car..

If your asking my personal preference? I'd get the c7 M 7 z51 with MRC and NPP.

Since you said you are possibly interested in buying the more collectible of the 2, I would say the ZL-1 would be more collectible/rare than a C7 Stingray in 20 years. As for which is the better representative of Chevrolet heritage, I would say the Corvette is. You can't go wrong either way though.

ZL1 doesnt change the outside appearance for the '14 year.

It is a tough decision IMHO. However, the ZL1 is going to be made in the low 1000s while the Stingray is going to be in the upper 20k hopefully. Just doesnt compare when it comes to rarity.

Re: 2013 Convertible ZL1 or wait for 2014 Stingray Convertible?

Both are great but I wouldn't hesitate to the Stingray. A Corvette is a Corvette. Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.

IMO, I would not get either car for expectation that it will become a collectors car. I would get the one that you want most and if it becomes a collector's item in the future, then so be it. You really don't know how that will turn out.

While the ZL1 will be a little more rare, the C7 does carry the Stingray name. If anything, I would think the Stingray might have more value down the road because that name hasn't been around in a long time and the C8 Corvette probably won't carry that name so you might not ever see the Stingray name again for a long time. Besides, I'm sure there will be a 6th gen ZL1 so will it really be that rare if it comes back for multiple generations?

The first ZL1 sold for 250K at Barrett Jackson and the first Stingray went for 1M. I think that says it all.

    Get the C7!

Something to be said about the pinnacle of one model (ZL1), and the standard production spec of another...

If I were to USE it, it is easily the Stingray. If you are really playing the "car investment crapshoot" game, ZL1.

While the ZL1 front doesn't change for 2014, the rear gets the same treatment as the other 2014 models.

Nonetheless, go ZL1 if you have kids to join you or care more about collectability. Otherwise, go with the C7.
