'14 Traverse LT Purchase/ Deal breaker

My wife and I are expecting our first born in about six weeks, and her 2013 Sentra just isn't the most desirable car for a car seat, short family road trips, etc. I have a Gm top up offer of $2,000 expiring end of feb so we decided to stop into a local Chevy dealer and see how she liked the Traverse. From looking online we where pretty sold on the 1Lt all star package with the sunroof but there is one deal breaker. It seems like all 1lt all stars have the brown wood around the touch screen and cup holders. I could care less and it isn't a deal breaker for me, but my wife literally refuses to buy a car with the terrible fake wood. Without a alternative to changing this out we will probably be purchasing the new 2014 highlander in the XLE trim, but the traverse is cheaper and seems a little bit roomier. We did see one online that has the dark gray wood style they use in the 2014 Malibu , I will attempt to attach pictures. How much would it realistically cost a dealer to order the different colored trim and swap it out. I didn't feel like arguing with our salesman but he basically said it was crazy we wanted it changed and would cost $1,000. I could care less but happy wife happy life. Thanks in advance. Also any other feedback about the traverse? We plan on doing the front wheel drive version we live in the Chicago suburbs but have always been fine with front wheel drive. We are hoping it will be a nice family
Car we can keep for 3-8 years and pay off. Any issues? Or other vehicles we should look at. We are a little pro Toyota but the traverse / Acadia seem like nice packages/ with the top up and lease conquest deal we can get the traverse pretty loaded MSRP around $38,500 I believe for around $31,400. Would be a good deal.

First two are the trim we want. Last two are the only ones we can find.

    Thanks

Darker trim comes with the lighter interior. It'll be harder but worth it. It took us about a week to find our Flex with the dune interior.

Quick images; Ours is a 2013 AWD 1LT without my link. 8 Seat. My Advice, with 1 Kid, get an Equinox V6. Its (Like our Blue one), You wont beleive how nice it is, Damn fast too. Perfect sleeper, when its nanny is not busy saving you fuel or stopping you from burning some rubber. Once you get used to it, it can smoke a lot of unsuspecting Audis.

My take ultimately, you cannot go wrong with either. The Traverse is a school bus. Its quite, very quite, brisk in gaining speed, an has the power it needs, but its Big and you feel it when you drive it. You quickly realize its not for sprints. Its a bus.

If She drives the Equinox V6, she is taking it home. Its that good. Its Superior in virtually all ways to the Lexus RX. I am not kidding, and if you think the RX is better, there is the price difference, you cannot loose.

If I didn't need the towing power of the Acadia (GMC's Traverse) I would have gone with the Equinox, because it has the same V6 available, and it's rated at over 300 horsepower in the Equinox, but under 290 in the Traverse. Not to mention that extra power in a lighter vehicle is a huge boost too and they're less expensive, even in AWD guise.

Buy the Traverse. I'm sure there's a ton of aftermarket trim available for way less than $1000. Dealer is probably pretty close on the price for factory swap out.

Buy the Traverse, go to carid.com and buy your own wood/aluminum/carbon fiber trim, and take your wife out with the extra money.

Pull the trim out and paint it black. Then order aftermarket trim if you can find it.

Like bballr said the gray (Titanium) interior color includes the darker wood trim, and from Chevrolet's "build-your-own" it looks like you can get it with the All-Star package, it didn't bump one or the other off. Specify that interior color to the dealer and they should be fine with finding you one, or go to another dealer.

What parts of the All-Star package have you set on it?

    Congratulations!

We don't care for the all star package, but its the only way any dealers in our area have a sunroof. We want the dark seats, that is the issue. I wish you could get the other trim.

Re: '14 Traverse LT Purchase/ Deal breaker

If you don't want the package, I wouldn't settle for it just because that's how they're equipped in your area, if you can help it. Since you say you plan to keep this one for a while, replacement tires for those 20" wheels wouldn't be cheap.

You might try the Acadia then which doesn't have any wood-tone trim on SLE models and offers the dual moonroofs on SLE-2.

Otherwise, ordering a dash kit as mentioned in earlier posts would be a good bet. You can also pick a material - darker wood, piano black, aluminum/metal-look, carbon fiber, etc.

If you really want the Highlander then go for it, but if you're looking for a deal too, I think it'll be much tougher to find one on the new '14.

Don't be afraid to travel a bit. The Traverse is a large seller and there has to be one near you with the packages you won't. Don't settle.

Re: '14 Traverse LT Purchase/ Deal breaker

It's a decent CUV, and as others have said very big, make sure your wife is OK driving it, multiple and/or long test drives is a must.

My sister has one, its FWD it does pretty good in the snow.

If you don't want the All Star, shop around, they have to be out there.

Get the dark interior and worry about changing it after the fact, who knows she might decide its OK, if not precede with the change.

The Equinox is pretty good size, but once you throw a big stroller in the back, diaper bag and other related that comes along with a munchkin, and you'll be glad you bought the Traverse, especially if you'll ever travel with more than just the 3 of you.

Once that baby comes, your priorities will change, drastically, trust me - my little one turned a year just a few weeks ago.
