Watch Lucid Motors’ electric car accelerate to a brain-melting 235 mph
    Andrew J. Hawkins

I’m on record as being a fan of the California electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors and its forthcoming first production model, the Air. I rode in the engineering prototype at CES earlier this year, and enjoyed the alpha prototype’s fully reclining back seat during the New York Auto Show a few months later. But we still have a long wait until the first model comes out in 2019, so Lucid will need to go that extra yard to keep us interested. That’s probably what motivated them to release a video of the Air driving at a speed that borders on offensive.

Back in March, Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s chief technology officer, told me the Air recently hit 160 mph on the test track, and that he expected to get that up to 200 mph fairly soon. They achieved that feat in April, hitting 217 mph — a milestone that soon became moot after removing the vehicle’s speed-limiting software and taking it for a breezy summer drive at 235 mph earlier this month.
    More here.

It's not a production spec car, but these guys are starting to look like the most likely to come out with a real product among the startups trying to challenge Tesla.

The performance looks good, but I don't know about that interior though......looks like it's missing something....

Yeah, the interior on that prototype is a bit, um..., spartan. Here's what they claim the production interior will look like:

It's beautiful. Since it debuted, I've been a much much much bigger fan of the Lucid Air vs anything Tesla does or says it will do (besides Solar Roof and Powerwall).

That interior looks really nice. I like the mix of materials.

That was impressive but I have to side with mbukukanau on the interior with ipad thing. I think they are tacky. The car looks wonderful too.

I would imagine given how fast electric motors spin, a transmission will enable it to achieve insane speeds, but it better have some downforce or else its going to take off and kill its occupants

I'm pretty sure when/if they get to production vehicles, they will use a 155 mph software limiter like everyone else. These high-speed demos are just to show what they are engineering the platform to be capable of.

I wonder how much charge was left in the battery after going that fast.
