Mt 2018 chevrolet equinox 1.5t premier first test

"Chevrolet’s MyLink multimedia system is an example of what infotainment units should be: easy to use and shouldn’t require you to pull out a user’s manual in order to figure out its functions. However, the 2018 Equinox suffers from a number of issues such as inconsistent build quality, a transmission that always wants to be in the highest gear, and the unavailability of active safety features on lower trims levels. As a result, an otherwise solid effort falls mid-pack, especially when you consider the $37,295 as-tested price. Even with all the features you get at that price, the 2018 Equinox is still a tough proposition especially when you consider its flaws".

Ok, I noticed a NG Equinox in our local Walmart parking lot. It was red. So, I was checking it out quite a bit as I try to reserve judgement until I see something in the wild. The profile sucks. It has the same strange converging character lines that look odd, but ok on the Malibu. The killer for me is the greenhouse. That oddly placed chrome trim at the front of the C-pillar looks really out of place, as there is no chrome around the back glass. Also, the shapes of the back two windows do not look like they belong on the same vehicle.

So, I like the profile of the previous Equinox much better.

That said, it will sell like crazy.

The GMC Terrain comes with the 9-spd. I wonder if that transmission will fix the drivability and performance.

$28,890 was what I got for a reasonably-equipped FWD LT w the Confidence and Convenience Package. These car mag guys are getting more and more out there. Their pricing and packages are not reality-based--not THEIR problem, they don't pay for these cars--and then they trash something that's overpriced by their own unrealistic standards. What a bunch of maroons.

They up-option it to 19" wheels, then they complain about the ride due to the 19" wheels. Next thing you know, they'll be blaming the Russians.

    Agree;

    1) You can tell some of the exterior angles/shapes were done for aerodynamics, from directly behind, it looks odd.
    2) The Malibu side body lines, on the taller and shorter shape don't translate well, odd profile and side view/look.
    3) Coming at it from the front, the grill (in some colors) looks really odd, like an uglier Cruze, it is the way it contrasts or blends with the body color.

I'm sure from above, looking straight down, it looks wonderful so it should sell well.

This is a loaded (FWD) - I'm sure they didn't buy it, it is whatever GM gave them, of course it's gonna have all the gadgets, the issue is the price with all the gadgets.........

Is a "raised Cruze" really worth double a "lowered Equinox"?

I don't like the new Equinox at all. I think it's ugly, has a cheap interior, subpar powertrain combos, and is way overpriced for what you get. The Terrain blows it away, and IMHO is a far nicer car for the money. It would be my choice in that class.

    Try again, Chevy.

Again with the transmission sucking the life out of the vehicle. We've been hearing about this for 10 years. Why????

9.2 second 0-60, wow, very 1980's. I get it that these aren't sports cars but that is slow for a $37k vehicle.

So if Honda offers all these goodies on bottom end cars, what do higher trim packages offer to make them worth it?

    0.002 MPG?

Yikes, that is only a hair faster than our 3.7L Commander!

The same thing that made a higher trim car different from a lower trim car before all the gadgets.

I know they didn't buy it, I know it's a press car. But to make the idiot statement they did, without spending 120 seconds checking price for a reasonably-equipped car, just shows that they're idiots.

Typically other models are available for a spin. Maybe five miles in a 'nox with the 17s would have opened up some logic channels in their craniums.

I was looking one over last Sunday at the dealer, a FWD LT in Sunburst Orange for $28,140 including the extra $495 for the color. I decided for what it had on it vs mine at its retail of $27,695 before the discounts on a left over '16, that mine was a better deal. I completely agree with you Extreme4x4 and Ed753 that the Malibu-esque side scalloping and the rear quarter glass are odd. I was checking out the size of that window inside vs. the outside and good Lord is that thing small inside there. It might as well not even exist for no more rear side view it could provide. FWIW I was also looking over the new Compass that the Jeep dealer just got, a FWD Latitude and I thought it just plain looked awkward. It looks better in pictures than in person IMO.

I agree though I'm not keen on the back end of the Terrain either. I think these are all pretty expensive for what they are.

GM could do better - the previous generation was a much nicer vehicle.
