Forget the BMW M4 GTS and upcoming Mercedes-AMG C63 R, Jaguar has just taken the mid-size performance sedan to entirely new heights with the unveiling of the XE SV Project 8.

Pictured here in prototype guise, the car has been born through Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division and when it reaches production, will be limited to just 300 units worldwide. As the name implies, it is the second limited-edition SVO model following the F-Type Project 7 in 2014.

Beneath the aerodynamic bodywork sits Jaguar’s formidable 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine which has been upgraded to 600 PS (591 hp), making the Project 8 the most powerful road legal Jaguar ever. Full technical specifications will be announced closer to the vehicle’s debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

How old is a 5.0 l v8 supercharger from Jaguar? I have a feeling it could be the oldest v8 in this class (Mercedes, BMW, Audi)..or is it 4.4 l v8 TT from BMW?

Definitely the oldest. Makes you wonder if they'll keep using it until Ford stops making it.

From 2009..They will probably use it until 2020+..or even longer. Maybe even Cadillac gets new v8 before Jaguar

At this rate, I think EU regulations may kill it. Could be why it has a preset limit

Honestly the engine has direct injection, so as long as it can perform and keep up then there is no reason to replace it. I know that in this day and age people want to see engines replaced just for the sake of replacing engines assuming that new is better. What new technology that other engines are using which the Jaguar AJ isn't using?, yes many European automakers have switched to 4.0-4.4L V-8 engines down from 5.0L. They could always adapt a twin turbo system to it and no one would be the wiser....
