Ford adds ‘burnout’ feature to all 2018 Mustangs

    http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...res/103282138/

New 2018 Mustangs will come standard with a feature that makes it easier to smoke the rear tires off the line.

It’s called a line lock, and it locks the front brakes only so the rear wheels can burn rubber. Because “burnouts just never get old,” says Vaughn Gittin Jr., Ford’s Formula Drift Champion.

The feature announced Thursday by Ford will be accessible through a menu on the Mustang’s instrument cluster. Once turned on, the system builds pressure on the front brakes, which can be held for up to 15 seconds. In that time, the driver can hit the gas pedal and peel out.

That feature was previously only available on the V-8 Mustang GT. Now, all Mustangs — even those powered by the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine — can heat up the tires.

“We introduced line-lock on EcoBoost Mustangs because we didn’t want those customers to miss out,” said Mark Schaller, Ford Mustang marketing manager, in a statement. “The number of people choosing EcoBoost power continues to grow globally, and with the increased torque and new features coming on the new Mustang, customers will not be disappointed.”

Proof of Electronic V8 sounds, yet to prove they are from a 454 GM.

10 Speed Auto behind the 4 Banger Eco Boost. Why is GM so Selective on what uses it?

As much fun as a burnout is, those tires cost to much to leave a decent portion going up in smoke or on the pavement! I'm to much of an accountant to have fun that way

Even Cadillacs are not getting it at GM. Too much bean counter mentality. Cadillacs should all have 9 speeds and 10 speeds as we speak..

Optional CD Player, must be the Best Example of this. How many Customers, never bought a GM because of this, verses Actual Cost of installing it on those vehicles where the Customer could care less?

    +1
Even the base 18" OE tire for Ford Mustang (Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season in size 235/50R18 97W) goes for $155.22 each at Discount Tire Direct.

OE tires for Mustang with 19" and 20" wheels can easily exceed $200 each.

I'd just like to see the button that allows the car to not aim towards pedestrians.

This happened at our big weekly cruise night several weeks back. In here you get a rare, back to back glance of oversteer, and understeer! Jackasses are going to ruin my lifelong Saturday cruise night.

It doesn't matter to those still living with their parents (that give them a car maintenance allowance).

Re: Ford adds ‘burnout’ feature to all 2018 Mustangs

The transmission change isn't what everyone is making it out to be, both GM and Ford have had a slow roll out of the new 10 speed transmission with the ZL1 Camaro and Ford F-150 raptor being the first to get it. On top of that Ford is going from a 6 speed auto that is considered the worse in class while GM currently has their 8 speed autos in all but the ZL1 Camaro. The benefit of going from an 8 speed to a 10 speed just isn't going to be as big as going from a 6 speed to a 10 speed.
