This is an interesting article regarding the development and use of specific sounds for new Cadillac models, including the 2021 Escalade: https://www.freep.com/story/money/ca...ds/4857157002/

It seems I've read about this somewhere but at the moment I'm lost to as where, and don't feel like digging. Maybe on Cadillac Society or something.

I have recordings of V8-with-a-cam lumpy idle and bradda-broom takeoff which I can send to external speakers on my Soul so the peasantry thinks I'm running a hot V8. Is that like what this thread's about?

The amount of work and thought going into these sounds is amazing and no wonder why vehicles cost so much these days! Now I want to hear these chimes, better not sound like GM's standard door open chime that I've heard my whole life

I do wonder why they don't give you options to choose what kind of sounds you want your engine to make. The tech certainly is there to make my 2.0T sound like a V8 - though my guess is it is pay to play - you want the sound of a V8 then you need to buy that V8! My guess is an Asian brand that doesn't offer a V8 will be the first one to offer a button that you can change from Turbo 4 sound to V8 burble sound.

You get the first Escalade off the production line, just wait outside until they show up with it.

I wonder what brand of headphone he was using. I don't think they were Sennheiser.

I'm even more interested in what he thinks about GM's widespread use of Bose speakers.

This is “alert sounds” kind of thing. But these days everybody pumps engine sounds into the cars — at least sport variants, because people who buy performance sedans and coupes like hearing engine sounds and, at least at the luxury level, car companies have gotten so good at sound-proofing their cars that they have to pump engine sounds in through the speaker system.

Unfortunately they have all now decided to electronically “reproduce” the engine sounds. Reviewers now look for how “honest” those sounds are, presumably by comparing engine sounds inside and outside the car.
