A total of 1,631,064 new cars were registered in the UK in 2020, compared with 2,311,140 in 2019. In December, 132,682 cars were registered, down from 148,997 in December 2019.

Sweden has just hit a massive 49.4% plugin electric vehicle share in December 2020, over 4× the share of December 2019 (11%).
Norway, the auto market most advanced down the path to electromobility, has seen new records broken in December, with 87.1% market share for plugin electric vehicles. Over two thirds were pure electric vehicles, and non-hybrid combustion vehicles fell to just 7.5% market share.
The UK’s plugin electric vehicle market hit new highs in December 2020, at 23.4% market share, up from 6.6% in December 2019. The Tesla Model 3 was the UK’s best selling auto of any kind in December, with 5,798 vehicles delivered. 2020’s overall plugin volumes grew 2.4× over 2019, despite the UK auto market being down almost 30% in volume.
Germany, Europe’s largest auto market and the 4th largest in the world, achieved 26.6% plugin electric vehicle share in December. This is a stunning ascent from the 4.0% share seen in December 2019.
