American made Tesla Model 3 the No 8 best selling Chinese import in August.

The Chinese government has added Tesla’s electric cars to the list of vehicles exempt from sales tax. Only cars produced in China are exempt from the ten per cent sales tax.

With the construction of the plant in Shanghai, Tesla is apparently also granted this privilege – despite the ongoing trade disputes between the USA and China. According to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the tax exemption applies not only to the Model 3 produced in China but to all electric cars sold by Tesla in China, including the Model S and Model X imported from the USA. The reasons for the decision were not stipulated in the announcement, but Tesla’s Shanghai plant and the associated investment are considered good arguments.

According to Tesla, the huge electric vehicle market in China is one of the largest growth markets. As a reaction to the tax exemption, the Californian company announced in a WeChat beta that the purchase price could drop by up to 99,000 yuan (equivalent to 12,564 euros).

Tesla sales seem to be going in the other direction up +519% exports to China the market is in a -25% sales slump in August. Nice to see the Chinese buying something American made for a change.

Yes it is.

Hopefully they won't discover the radiation and negative effects of human beans' close proximity to giant whirring electromagnets for many many years. :)

This was something I was curious about when I was considering an EV. Back when I was looking in 2016, any data was hard to find but there were a few sources. There are more today. Here's one that gives measurements taken from all over a Tesla Model 3 (if you can get through the interspersed Amazon ads):
https://agassitesla.yungacraft.com/2019/08/23/top-3-reasons-no-to-worry-about-emf-in-tesla/

The highest measured EMF reading is 0.8 microtesla, or 8 mG. That's comparable to what CR found in a lot of regular vehicles (with GM's own Cobalt, for once, topping a chart!), and what someone on a Tesla forum found online..

What I took away from this sort of data is that EV motors (at least on the reasonably well engineered cars) are shielded well enough that EMF radiation from them is similar to other vehicles.

Tesla really could continue the trend with the release of model Y.

Lithium-ion is still not the way to go. 1. EVs are heavier than normal cars 2. Lithium ion mining is environmentally-friendly
I think you are better off just get a cheap, light and economical car.

Personally I think if EV owners are not going to pay the regular taxes other car owners pay, we should change the tax system entirely and tax cars based on weight. It is the car's weight that puts the most stress on the road.

Thing is we can't go lighter than lithium, it is the lightest metal. This leaves hydrogen is the best alternative, after all it is the most abundant element in the universe.
