Tesla is aiming to manufacture a “compelling” $25,000 electric vehicle within the next three years by making use of improved battery technology, CEO Elon Musk said Tuesday during the company’s “Battery Day” presentation.

Musk set the goal during a lengthy presentation on Tesla’s improved battery cell design. Tesla’s “tab-less” batteries would improve vehicle range by 16%, be six times more powerful and have five times the energy capacity of current-generation batteries.

While Tesla won’t begin mass-producing the batteries for months, the company expects the improved design to help lower vehicle production costs in the coming years. Musk said the development of an affordable mass-market electric vehicle “has always been our dream from the beginning of the company.”

Well, certainly could be. But we know that all EVs will have price parity with ICE cars in the very near future. And currently (and for some time now) Chevy has put $8500 in cash allowances on the Bolt which puts the starting price under 30k, and almost no one has noticed.
I am on the border of genius and crazy. I keep trying to cross over into genius, but ICE keeps sending me back to the crazy side of the border.

I've noticed, very likely picking up a lease for a little over $100 a month and no money down.... can't pass it up!

He can hit the number with slave labor in China. With current trends he will have to, because most of us will be broke, and only maybe 3/4 of us will be around.

GM breathe a sigh of relief. Nothing much to worry about moving forward.

Well, assuming new more expensive battery technology and a fall in the price of current technology, there is no reason why the next Bolt could not be priced lower with the same range

    Except bankruptcy by 2030.

In 2025 the LG-GM JV in Ohio will be producing batteries at roughly twice the price per kWh than Tesla.

Elon can hit that number with San Jose-San Francisco Bay Area latte labor rates in Fremont Ca.

Where neither Toyota nor GM could make a go of it.

But these cells will also be produced in Reno NV, Austin Texas, Berlin Germany and Shanghai China.

HINT These batteries will not be labor intensive.

It's all about the battery tech - if they can get that, $25K is possible.

That said - call me skeptical at this point.
