Tesla claimed its pickup truck was ‘bulletproof’ — then smashed its windows with a m

Tesla unveiled its futuristic pickup truck at a promotional event in Los Angeles, but when it came to showing off the vehicle’s durability, things didn’t quite go as planned.

CEO Elon Musk claimed the car was “bulletproof” against a 9mm handgun. But when he got Tesla’s chief designer to throw a metal ball at one of its armored windows, audible surprise could be heard as the glass smashed — twice.

“Oh my f------ God,” Musk exclaimed when it first happened. “Well, maybe that was a little too hard.”

Design lead Franz Von Holzhausen gave it another shot, this time with another window. Again, the ball cracked the glass pretty badly.

I like watching techbro billionaires with god complex die on stage 😄

That said, I think I like the way it looks.

That was pretty embarrassing! And the reaction to the styling seems to be that it was done by a preschooler. Or looks like "the Homer," the car designed by Homer Simpson that instantly ruined his rich brother.

So, even if the windows were bulletproof, why? What is the intended market here, roofing contractors in Fallujah?

Wow, huge fail on the stage show, lol. So the unatainium model is supposed to start at $39,900k which would be cool but not likely. The interior... horrible. The exterior is not bad, not sure it's very practical but we will see.

How are you supposed to reach anything in the bed??? Climbing in every.single. time. to reach anything beyond the first rearward foot of the bed is NOT user friendly.
Where's the power retractable tailgate (ala GM's clamshell wagons of the '70s), or a moving bed floor, or 'Falcon-wing' bedsides?
You know- the innovation... after "100 years of trucks being the same"?

I cannot recall a more widely missed shot at a target in automotive history.

I missed it, but it was reported that attendees laughed when it was unveiled, as if it was a joke and the real one was going to follow.
When they realized this thing actually was it, they went back to sucking Elon's d*ck.

The initial reaction was what everyone really thought of it.

This thing looks horrid - like some offcast "future concept" from the early 90s. Like a dustbuster. Its amazing that a company that produced the Model S is going to make this hideous thing.

No, he's probably never watched a Terminator movie. Elon lives a sheltered life, hopefully once he starts dating Cher they will go hang out and do cool stuff like that. Maybe go to a hockey game or something.

And what they PROBABLY MEANT was if your chief designer throws a 9mm round at the window. I doubt Musk would know a 9mm if it snuck up behind him and gave him a boot up the arse.

It was interesting to watch the magician's assistants when they were doing the drop test on the glass pane.

My, oh my, is that ever ugly. It's like the styling people just gave up and threw some straight lines on a piece of paper. Those wheel well arches? Are you kidding me?!!

I'm confused because April 1st is 5 months away. "Fugly" has just been redefined.

I gave the critter the once-over, I didn't really look hard at it. But yes, I have to agree with others and my own earlier assessment, someone gave an elementary school kid a ruler and said "Design a car. Use only this and your pencil, no free-hand!" And this thing that looks like it would fit right in on a '50s sci-fi movie set is the result. A few straight lines, four tires...but it ain't a pickuptruck. It's an El Camino.

To call the guy "design lead" has to be some sort of joke. Did they knock this one off one Friday morning and then adjourn to the bar for the rest of the day?
