Taycan Burns to the Ground Spontenously

The 2020 Porsche Taycan is hot right now. In fact, it's so hot that we just tested one to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 10.47 seconds. Oh, and one reportedly caught fire in Florida.

Little information is known about the incident, however, a video posted to YouTube by user Cop Block shows the burned-out remains of the German brand's electric sedan within the charred confines of a garage. A Porsche spokesperson told Automotive News that the company is "investigating" the matter, while also confirming that "no one was harmed in [the] incident and that it's too early to speculate on the cause until the investigation has concluded. "

An investigation would not just entail examining the charred remains of the vehicle. It could entail conducting interviews with the owner / driver / residents / witnesses / etc. The building and its wiring would be examined. The service and ownership records of the vehicle could be examined. The list is almost endless.

An electric burns down and it's national news. 10 days ago a late model Equinox parked in the driveway two houses away burned down and took half the house with it before the fire was contained.

That will cut down on trade-in value considerably. Tsk tsk.

If they throw the frame in a barn for 100 years, they can then sell it as a barn find for the rare 2020 Taycan and make a fortune!

It just had to be an Equinox, not a Mitsubishi, or a Honda or even a Mercedes or Kia.

My neighbor nearly burned his house down when his '75 Ford F250 project truck caught fire in the driveway while he was charging the battery. Almost exactly the same thing. Should I tell them about it?

Just so we are equal opportunity bashers:

There's the recent issue of Toyota RAV4s spontaneously burning down like this and this, and the Toyota recall for possible engine fires.

And self-immolating BMWs was international news not that long ago, including a ban on the use of recalled BMWs in South Korea.

And the investigation into 3 million Hyundais and Kias for potential fires.

So, yeah, it happens to everyone, even the "best".

The Taycan fire is notable in that so few have been delivered so far but the cause could just as easily have been faulty wiring in the garage. We'll just have to wait and see what comes of the investigation.

That's just a little too hot and even worse maybe than stolen "hot". Hopefully the owners' insurance will remedy the situation for them.

    This is a fair observation

Some years back my parents' '71 deuce-and-a-quarter starter motor spontaneously engaged. The caah didn't start, the starter just spun. By the time I got outside there were smoke signals coming out from under the hood. I popped the hood and yanked a battery cable and everything stopped. Then the fire truck pulled up. It was a lot of excitement for a quiet hood.
