    Official: Mustang Mach E

So the *******isation of the Mustang name begins... As much as I hate Chevy putting Blazer on that CUV, at least they didn't call it Camaro!

Ford releases name of first all-electric Mustang SUV

Ford Motor Co. announced Thursday that its ballyhooed electric SUV will be called Mustang Mach-E.

The automaker said in a news release that this is "the first time in Mustang’s 55-year history that we’ve expanded the stable."

The debut will be streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Autohome (China), the news release said. British actor Idris Elba, known for his roles in "The Wire" and "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," will participate in the introduction.

"Mach E" is a terrible name.
Drives a 2019 Cadillac ATS Coupe and a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA.

In the past, I've had a 5th gen Camaro, a CTS sedan and coupe, two 3rd gen Firebird Formulas, a convertible 4th gen Trans Am, a Reatta, a couple of Monte Carlos, an Avenger coupe, a couple of Cavalier hatchbacks, a Saturn SC1, and a Cherokee.

This is a sad cheapening of an American icon.

Perhaps they will combine all "Mustang" sales figures to outsell the Challenger?

I guess if they're expanding the Mustang range I'll hold out for the Mustang Shelby F-500 Ute!

I don't really have an issue with them turning Mustang into a sub brand, I just don't think the style of this crossover is good enough to wear the pony badge.

Dont have a problem with it...at all. in fact, I wish GM did the same with Corvette but not on an EV. But let's say this electric stallion can run....like a Mustang, then Ford will have a hit on its hands.

While there may be some grumbles, I don't think a lot of Mustang owners will care. It's not like anyone will confuse the 2.

Yeah. Not digging it either. And if you say it quickly, it sounds like "Mockey"....as in you're Mocking the Mustang, perhaps?

As a general idea, I don't have a real problem with it either. They've expanded the Prius moniker to encompass other products. It hasn't hurt the nameplate and has created a subbrand for Toyota to trade on.

The Corvette would make a natural subbrand for GM, and it's arguably past time that they expanded the footprint of Corvette to incorporate other form-factors -- must has Porsche has pushed past being a 911-only brand to embracing sedans and SUVs.

As it relates to the Mustang, I'm not entirely sold on moving in this direction. Is it bold? Yes. Could it founder and hurt the actual Mustang? Sure can. I give them credit for being gutsy, but it's anyone's guess how this will pan out.

They had the perfect opportunity to do so with the mid-engine Vette by pushing it further up the ladder and evolving the C7 as their entry level car. Personally I think it's the route they should have gone, even though their managing to price the C8 within spitting distance of the C7 is an amazing feat of engineering!

I really don't think this Mach E will have any negative effect upon the traditional Mustang so long as the traditional dead dinasaur version honors the Mustang heritage. I have no problem with them expanding the name into crossover territory, I just don't think based upon the renders we've seen that it's going to be sexy enough to justify it's pony badge.

No alternative for Ford, if it does nothing, Mustang will just continue to ebb away like Camaro until the name is worthless.

Better to try expanding the brand and see what comes back. If there’s lots of bricks through windows then it was a bad move

They're just getting a head start on the future...in 10 years everything on the road is going to look something like this:

there may be some small variances like ride height and length but expect more of these in the coming years.

See I don't agree with this. Porsche is a brand, Corvette is a car. It was always Porsche 911. They aren't calling the Panamera the 911 Panamara or 911 Caman etc. Corvette is a Chevrolet plain and simple. They don't need a Corvette brand. That's what Cadillac is supposed to be for!
