The new Toyota RAV4 fails the moose test

The behavior for the all-new Toyota RAV4 in the avoidance maneuver test (aka moose test) is so dangerous that, until Toyota corrects the error, our advise is to not buy the car.

Well it destroyed the competition in sales last month so I don't think this will deter sales down the road much if at all. I see these everywhere and the weekends I see 2 or 3 of them still partially wrapped assuming, out for test drives.

This thing is stupid expensive too compared to the CR-V or CX-5 which I think are superior options. But hey, this Toyota, the loyalty is rabid.

    It's a reskinn of the old Rav4

Then maybe they should've re-shoed it. This jerk-and-twerk looks similar to Consumer Reports' "accident avoidance maneuver," I'll have to check to see if the RAV did the shake-and-bake for them. I'm pretty sure they'd have slapped a DO NOT BUY tag on it if that was the case. I presume the skid control was active when this maneuver was made. Still, pretty scary how that puppy hopped and rolled all over the place.

The ride takes a step backward compared to earlier generations. Now, it's taut and tends to feel jumpy on certain pavement surfaces. However, handling and steering response has improved, making the RAV4 a bit more agile.

    Handling

The RAV4 handles well with responsive steering and restrained body lean, a slight improvement over the previous version. However, it doesn't possess the level of athleticism associated with peers such as the Mazda CX-5.

The RAV4 showed that it's a capable and secure SUV in our accident avoidance maneuver. It posted a commendable speed of 54 mph and was easy to pilot through the cones with confidence. It displayed tenacious front-end grip on our road course. The hybrid, shod with different tires posted only a 52 mph through the cone-lined course.

Wonder if the test driver did some extra wheel-yanking to make this critter buck. Wasn't that his poppa in the back seat?

Best looking mainstream CUV on the road by far. Toyota hit it out of the park on styling and powertrain options. It's a great vehicle, has nothing to do with "rabid loyalty"

Also what's wrong with people being loyal to Toyota? They have a proven track record of decades of quality, they are patient (the Corolla is on its 12th generation - the Cruze went 1.5 before being killed), and they are finally moving away from their hideous wacky styling from previous years.

Best looking? In my opinion, it's the most ugly in its class.

You can't fault them for being a little different at least. Only so many times you can iterate the same design of the Equinox and CR-V over and over.

The "Toyoto" Rav4 is built in Kentucky. Sorry! Darn Americans should be buying a nice Hecho En Mexico Equinox to support the middle class!

Looks is a matter of personal taste. If you like it so much you should buy one.

I give them E for effort in styling.

I don't have much interest in a CUV and don't like to buy new, so maybe once they start coming off leases I'll look into it. If I were to buy a CUV it would be an Edge ST or Rav4 Hybrid.
