I guess it's good GM is getting out of the midsize biz. First the Sonota and now a very Dynamic looking Optima!

Dynamic? Looks like a dodge dart so far and the sonata was hideous

Meh...at least it doesn't look like the Stinger anymore. And yeah, the Sonata is terrible.

The styling isn't for me, but its not bad in my opinion. The interior looks pretty nice and that will be what draws people in. Interior style/features are usually at the top of the list when people shop for cars. Its the point that people interact with on the daily basis during their drives. We've all seen how important the interior was on the Ram/GM full size trucks. The Silverado went from second best seller to third best due to interior styling that was at best a second thought.

It appears I might like the new Optima's front end but most everything aft of it loses my interest; however, what I've seen of its interior, so far, looks promising to my tastes. I think the new Sonata looks abysmal; its interior looks fine but there is nothing about its exterior that I like.

That is sheer opinion. Have you made trim level to trim level comparisons? As a GM fan I have no problem saying, in my opinion, Ram put together a nicer top-end interior due largely to the massive screen and greater attention to details. I surmise Ram took notice that top-dog versions of these trucks appeal to some luxury-minded consumers and made the choice to cater to them. But in anything shy of that level, I struggle to see how the Ram's interiors have anything on the GM twins.

With regard to sales volume: GM took a different tack, pursuing unit profitability while abandoning the antiquated volume-first mentality. They announced years ago that was going to be their new M.O. and, sure enough, the new GM trucks are bringing in substantially more profit than the previous generation, with healthy sales that are on a healthy trajectory. Besides that, GM has been conservative with incentives contrary to Ram which also happens to be selling TWO generations simultaneously under the same name (GM did it too but only while clearing out previous stock, as opposed to Ram doing it in perpetuity). If both versions of Rams are considered one truck with respect to sales numbers, it stands to reason we should no longer have any disputes looking at the combined sales of Chevy+GMC in future conversations.

The renderings look amazing but so far it doesn't seem like the actual car is a good representation of them. Will have to wait and see it in an. upper trim model to really tell much.

From what I see I guess it is to be expected considering what they did to the new Sonata. It's dynamic alright, but to the wrong extreme IMO. Suddenly the Malibu is... dare I say, beautiful .
