Mazda Mexico debuts Mazda3 Turbo before official U.S. reveal
    2.5-liter four-cylinder gets at least 227 hp and 310 lb-ft down south

We should have been keeping an eye on our neighbors to the south, who did us the favor of showing off the turbocharged 2021 Mazda3 last week. The automaker teased the reveal for the U.S. market to happen on July 8. It's reasonable to expect slight changes between our two countries, but the Mexico introduction makes a good base to know what we're getting. The prime specs: 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged four-cylinder with 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. As suspected, this is the same engine found in the Mazda6, CX-5, and CX-9. As such, we expect those output figures are based on using 87 octane gasoline; in the other three Mazda offerings, 93 octane gas unlocks 250 hp and 320 lb-ft. So at worst, the Mazda3 turbo makes 41 hp and 124 lb-ft more than the naturally-aspirated engine in the current hatch and sedan. At best, the improvement runs to 64 hp and 124 lb-ft.

Comparing the turbo Mazda3 to the segment-standard Volkswagen Golf GTI, the incoming 2021 German will make 241 hp and 273 lb-ft.

Glad they are offering this to those who want it, but i'm not a big fan of the new 3. We had a Mazda 3 a few years ago, and this engine is much more powerful than what we had...but they keep making this car shorter and closer to the ground with every generation. Our old Mazda 3 was a compact car..but I personally had no problem getting in and out of it. I tried to sit in the new one in the showroom when it was available last year..and it is so low to the ground that Mazda is basically forcing many of us out of compact Sedans and into crossovers because of how low they are making their cars.

And for advertising of the new Mazda3 turbo, bring back the zoom-zoom boy also known in Quebec as the "vroum-vroum" boy.

If they put this engine in the Miata, I would actually consider buying one. Should this actually give me a little hope that happens???

I have the 2.5T in my 6. Its not that rev happy, makes almost all of it's power low in the rev cycle almost like a diesel, will spin its tires without even trying, and its very quiet as in I can't after 7 months and 13,000 miles tell you what it sounds like. Putting it in the Miata IMO would kill its fun to drive factor.
