The man who helped breathe new life into the styling of Lincoln vehicles as brand design director has left the company.

David Woodhouse, who was also Ford’s director of global strategic design since 2017, has resigned from the U.S. automaker. His move leaves more questions than answers as it’s unclear why he left given the successful overhaul of Lincoln’s lineup.

In a private Facebook post seen by Autonews, Woodhouse calls it a “difficult decision,” especially given his personal investment in Lincoln. “Ending a long-standing relationship with a corporation is just like ending a personal relationship multiplied by the number of wonderful friends and colleagues,” the designer wrote without elaborating.

Basically he just copied Rover and Bentley in his designs. Hopefully Lincoln gets it's own signature design in the future.

Lincoln has gone through many design directors, it's also not that unusual for this to happen. Designers are often problematic managers which is why they have a hard time staying in that roll or moving up.

I have no idea why everyone says Lincoln copied Bentley design. Lincoln cars look NOTHING like a Bentley. Even Stevie Wonder can see this.

wouldn't say all that. The Continental shares a lot of Bentley design language

LOL. Head of Bentley even complained about it. Continental was a cheap rip off.

Considering the Bentley Design team was pissed with Lincoln when the Continental was debuted, I'd say you may want to rethink this.

I think they were pissed about the name...not the design, I just don't see it:

It was more the rear styling. Lincoln Continental came before the Bentley Continental and I think VW group pays royalties to use that name to Ford from what I have heard. Not sure how true that is.

They're well within their rights to get angry over whatever they want but with that said...I still don't see it:

Personally, I think he has been offered another job he couldn't pass up. Or, he "knows something" about Fords plans that hasn't been announced yet.

I haven't much liked his work, but that's purely a personal opinion. I remember the back-and-forth with Bentley's chief designer when the Continental Concept was unveiled.

    You don't?

Everyone else does. Just Google "Lincoln Continental Bentley Comparison"

None of this is particularly Mr. Woodhouses fault though. Robert Cumberford, writing for Automobile Magazine, reported soon after the production Continental was released that Mark Fields (Then CEO of Ford) had ordered that the Continental was to "look as much like a Bentley as possible" (Quoted from memory).
