Could the Toyota MR2 Make a Comeback as an EV?
The lightweight mid-engined runabout might return as soon as 2024 to fill a gap in Toyota's sports-car lineup. Car and Driver

We hear that the MR2, a lightweight mid-engined sports car that Toyota sold in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, could make a comeback.
It's possible that the new MR2 will make the transition to being either a purely electric model or a hybrid, given Toyota's push toward electrification.
If it comes to fruition, the revived MR2 is still pretty far off. We expect it to arrive in 2024 with a starting price somewhere around $45,000.
I think i'll wait until further confirmation or spy shots, but that render looks like they cobbled up a Scion leftover that was made into a Toyota, into something else.
Given MR2 originally referred to the mid-engine, rear-drive layout of the car, it would be rather ironic if the name gets used on a car without an engine at all.
Basically yes, it was around $21-25k. That was part of the attraction to the original. It wasn't very powerful but it handled great and it was just fun to drive. Basically a mid-engine Miata.
