Could the Toyota MR2 Make a Comeback as an EV?
The lightweight mid-engined runabout might return as soon as 2024 to fill a gap in Toyota's sports-car lineup.

    • We hear that the MR2, a lightweight mid-engined sports car that Toyota sold in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, could make a comeback.
    • It's possible that the new MR2 will make the transition to being either a purely electric model or a hybrid, given Toyota's push toward electrification.
    • If it comes to fruition, the revived MR2 is still pretty far off. We expect it to arrive in 2024 with a starting price somewhere around $45,000.

I'm thinking a new mid engine Honda PU would be more practical. That 'H' emblem on the front is awesome!

It sounded pretty good until I actually said it.

I think i'll wait until further confirmation or spy shots, but that render looks like they cobbled up a Scion leftover that was made into a Toyota, into something else.

That video is almost comical, what with the spinning of the tires and flying gravel etc., etc. Make it Electric..., or not.

Yessireebob, that thar would sell. Looked like RWD and three on the tree too, just as today's Purists want their cars!

Reminds me of the old Corvair ads, with Corvairs doing stuff that today's snowflakes need 4WD and three feet of ground clearance to duplicate. And it doesn't even have "OFF ROAD" tags!

That's awesome! Though I'd put $100 on it that the Corvair had to be towed out of the muck about 50 times to make this video!

Re: Could the Toyota MR2 Make a Comeback as an EV?

I know plenty of people who would only be interested in it if it had a mid engine 4 cylinder and a 6 speed manual.

Cars like this when it comes to it, are appealing only to automotive enthusiasts and purists. That means gas only and manual transmission.

Naah! That's all real. Just like Road Runner cartoons.

    Just three problems:

    1. The wimpy dorky fake "real dildos, not actors" geeks would probably crap their drawws if they were even riding shotgun during those shenanigans.
    2. GM Upstairs lacks the balls to do anything anywhere near this cool in ONE BILLION YEARS!

Re: Could the Toyota MR2 Make a Comeback as an EV?

Given MR2 originally referred to the mid-engine, rear-drive layout of the car, it would be rather ironic if the name gets used on a car without an engine at all.
