I was kind of surprised by final choice.

I wouldn't call Mat Watson biased, but that he picked the Audi wasn't much of a surprise.

I thought that Lexus had abandoned the European Market.

Is the GS not available in Europe? Never thought of a ES as 5 series competition. No CTS or XF. Seems incomplete without those two

Currently on sale in the UK are CT, UX, IS, NX, ES, RC, RX, LC and LS - no GS though - the mix in mainland Europe countries may be different.

Same Lexus portfolio here in Germany.

Lexus does well enough in Europe w/ its hybrid heavy lineup; it's Infiniti that needs to contemplate whether it's worth continuing.

The GS was sold in Europe until recently.

Was discontinued due to poor sales and Lexus basically replaced it w/ the current ES - just like as over here, most buyers don't purchase Lexus for performance/handling, but for other things like reliability and fuel economy (hybrid).

In Germany and other Germanic countries, the Kia Stinger vastly outsells the entire Lexus RWD lineup; but overall, the IS still outsells the Stinger due to its hybrid variant (due to countries w/ high CO2 taxes).

Also in Europe, things tend to be more malleable when it comes to doing comparisons.

European publications have pitted the likes of a top-spec Sorento against the X3, GLC - despite the Sorento being a bit larger, FWD and a non-lux brand.

In the same manner, the Arteon has been pitted against the German lux brand offerings.

Plus, Lexus has basically positioned/pushed the ES in Europe as the replacement for the GS, even tho in many ways it's not a direct competitor.

^ Yeah, that slipped my mind.

Australia should be next for Infiniti (the Stinger outsells the entire Infiniti lineup over there as well).
