2021 Genesis G80: First Official Look At New Model Has Us Salivating

2021 Genesis G80: First Official Look At New Model Has Us Salivating

BY MICHAEL GAUTHIER | POSTED ON MARCH 4, 2020

Spy photographers have snapped the 2021 Genesis G80 on multiple occasions, but we’re shocked by how stunning the car looks in these official pictures.

Set to be introduced later this month, the 2021 G80 adopts an “Athletic Elegance” design that looks simply phenomenal.

Like the GV80, the model features a large crest grille which is flanked by Genesis’ trademark “quadlamps.” Of course, the real highlights are further back as the G80 has a long flowing hood, muscular bodywork and 20-inch alloy wheels.
As expected, the cabin follows in the footsteps of the GV80. Genesis was tight-lipped on details, but the luxury sedan features a distinctive two-tone steering wheel that resides in front of a digital instrument cluster.

To the right, there’s a 14.5-inch widescreen infotainment system and slender air vents that appear to span the width of the interior. Further below, there’s a wide swath of wood trim and high-tech controls with digital displays. Other highlights include a rotary shifter, metallic accents and premium leather seats with distinctive stitching.

Genesis is keeping specifications under wraps, but confirmed the G80 rides on all-new platform and features new powertrains as well as high-tech systems. While the company is playing coy, many components should carryover from the GV80.

    This means we can expect a couple of petrol engines including a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 developing more than 370 hp (276 kW / 375 PS). In certain markets, there could also be a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel producing 274 hp (204 kW / 278 PS) and 434 lb-ft (589 Nm) of torque.

    Not a bad looking vehicle.
Maybe one or two more powerful engine (above 3.5 V6 TT) and something below 304 hp wouldn't be so bad choice to offer.
Does others manufacturers offer their cars ( in this class ; MB E class, BMW 5 series, Audi A6 etc) in U.S.A with less powerful engine or is 300 HP+ basic engine in this class in U.S.A?

The era of these cars is gone... Now they are livery sales. Wait one year you can pick it up for cheap, real cheap.

Peter Schreyer and Luc Donckerwolke are worth their weight in gold - best in the business.

That's pretty sharp minus the grill. It looks like an Escala/A7 in the profile. The interior seems pretty meh though.

Most start with a 2.0T ~ 250HP, this has a 2.5T so maybe its a power/value play? They have a 2.0T to use, so this is a deliberate choice.

I definitely get an A7 vibe from it, I like it inside and out. I am thoroughly impressed with the new Genesis product.

Sorry not liking the in-your-face Ford Edsel here comes that car with the horrible grill it kinds of kills off the sales of the whole car, one small mad looking component kills off un-does all the good work done on the rest of the car, a shame really..

Still don't like the grille, but this looks much better than the G90 refresh, which looks terrible.
