    2021 Ford Bronco Could Get A Twin-Turbo V6 And A Manual Transmission

    2021 Ford Bronco Could Get A Twin-Turbo V6 And A Manual Transmission

The 2021 Ford Bronco is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated SUVs in years and now we’re learning more about it.

Car & Driver has deep dive on the all-new model and they report it will be instantly recognizable and very Jeep-like. The overall styling will echo the Bronco R prototype and the publication says we can expect a squared-off hood, a Bronco-branded grille and circular headlights. The latter were leaked not long ago and the assembly also appears to have LED turn signals and an LED light ring.

The four-cylinder is the only option on the US-spec Ranger and it produces 270 hp (201 kW / 274 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. It will likely carryover for use in the Bronco, but customers will reportedly able be to opt for a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 that develops around 325 hp (242 kW / 330 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque. This makes sense as it’s in line with the Bronco R comments and the engine is already available on the F-150.

    Really exciting if true.

Also kind of makes it more obvious that GM doesn't have anything similar to combat such a product. :-(

I honestly can't wait to see it. If I were at Jeep right now, I'd be thinking twice about how to update/evolve/improve the Wrangler. Part of what makes the Wrangler such a great product is it's raw, visceralness. It has gotten more civilized cause as people demand more from their vehicles. However, they've also just about had the entire market t themselves all this time. If the Bronco becomes a legitimate alternative to the Wrangler, then Jeep/FCA will need to be consider their value-proposition and improvements more carefully.

I guess anyone in search of a V8 in this type of product will then have to go to Jeep then. . . oh wait.

I would think a turbo gasser in this type of vehicle would be a ****ty choice, but at least they are offering different products for different folks.

Raptor has done pretty well for them with a Turbo V6, I imagine its the same basic powertrain.

Different type of off roading. Rock crawling is extremely slow. Lots of heat soak and low pressure turbo lag.

Yeah, you aren't spooling up the turbo crawling, BUT for back-country desert racing, a turbo might be nice...

And, don't blame the OEMs, this is government (EPA MPG) regulations coming home to roost. Politicians decided we need super-high MPG in a vacuum. OEMs must comply. Consumers are left with what can come close, and manufacturers average in their fleets. However, with the decline in CAR sales, this makes no sense in a free market. Tell Washington they got it wrong.

Not so fast, GM engineered and built a better V8 instead of going turbo 6's.... FCA just buys a **** tonne of credits from Tesla and avoids doing anything all together except bleed money at the expense of product.

They are working on a new I6 turbo - which would be a perfect fit for JEEP, which historically had solid I6's (slant six).

I am really looking forward to see what Ford pulls out of a hat with the Bronco. I love the Jeep Wrangler, but its gotten pretty expensive for something I am going to beat the crap out of. Competition is good.

Agreed, I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope for the stillborn GMC Envoy. The presser released for it's canceling read like it might have just been shelved until the new platform comes out but I'm not holding my breath.

Always glad when something comes out with a manual. Hoping they offer it with the 2.3T...and as an option on the Ranger.
Current ride: 2015 Chevy Sonic 1.8L 5sp manual sedan
Previous ride: 1998 Subaru Legacy Wagon AWD 2.2L 5sp manual
Next ride: Maybe a 2020 2.0T CT4, weekend car, keep the Sonic as DD
