2020 Lincoln Corsair revealed with baby Aviator looks

2020 Lincoln Corsair revealed with baby Aviator looks
It gets a high-performance engine not available on the Escape

NEW YORK — Since Ford has unveiled the new Escape, it only makes sense that Lincoln would reveal its redesigned Escape-based luxury crossover, the 2020 Lincoln Corsair. The new crossover takes the place of the also-Escape-based MKC.

Design-wise, the only real giveaway that the Corsair is built off the Escape's front-drive platform is the short stretch between the base of the A-pillars and the front wheels. Otherwise, the Corsair simply looks like a scaled-down Aviator. While not particularly groundbreaking, it's far from a bad choice, as it looks both broad-shouldered and sleek with a big front fascia and gently falling roofline.

Even better, the interior clearly takes cues from the bigger Lincoln crossovers and SUVs with a horizontal layout, lots of chrome, and a bit of a midcentury modern feel. The Corsair does get unique touches such as a full-width air vent design, and a center stack that juts out unsupported from the dashboard. It's the inverse of the Aviator and Navigator control stacks. Lincoln's 24-way power adjustable front seats will be available as an option, while manual sliding and reclining rear seats are standard. Lincoln also touts sound-deadening features such as a dual-wall firewall panel and active noise canceling as standard features. Owners will also be able to use their cellphones as keys to access the car and to control functions from afar, storing settings for the infotainment, seats and climate control among other things. A key fob still comes with the car, and if a phone goes dead, the car can still be accessed and started using both the outside keypad and the infotainment touchscreen. Phones can be deactivated remotely, too, in case of it being stolen or lost.

Wow. Taking a first look at it, and it immediately makes me think that Caddy didn't fully bake the XT4....Especially in the interior department.

The styling a bit derivative from the rest of Lincoln's lineup, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Design is always subjective. To my eyes, Lincoln's current design direction is a little restrained, but that also makes it understated and handsome. Not everyone wants something flamboyant. At times, keeping design elements tight can make a product look both expensive and luxurious. What's more, having a design language that is "repetitive ad nauseam" certainly hasn't hurt brand like Audi as they push metal off their lots.

Interior-wise, I have to compliment Lincoln. It's clean and uncluttered. Not loving the dash on the passenger side and not completely sold on the "floating" center stack, but it's different and innovative. I'm sure lots of people will love it. From the little we see, the fit n' finish look good, and so do the materials. The instrument panel seems to be a full-screen with no traditional gauges; and that's arguably befitting a luxury brand and mimics their competition.

As an aside, I love that they kept the rear hatch as one-piece like in the current MKC (so that the taillights are not broken up by a tail-gate shut-line). I read that it was an expensive proposition to push past the bean counters, but it did make the rear of the car look that much better on the MKC. Glad that it survived on the new Corsair.

I gotta say, I really don't like the way the HVAC controls look like a pop-out keyboard on a copy machine, and I REALLY don't like that push-button gear selector. Otherwise not a bad offering. Interested to see how well it sells against the competition.

This looks more luxurious than the XT4. Bravo Lincoln. Now let's see how it drives.

Wow this does not stand out as anything special imo. And why can’t Lincoln hide the rear wiper on all their SUVs like caddy does...looks classier hidden. So glad Cadillac went the way they did with XT4 styling.

And what’s with the interior passenger vents? Didn’t Malibu get lambasted for a similar look on the previous generation? However, good luck to Lincoln as MKC was a dud.

Have you seen an XT4 in person? It oozes luxury. Cadillac hit it out of the park imo.

Probably the worst take on the new Lincoln interior design but it looks like it still has high class materials. If it has the drive trains from the Escape, this thing should sell damn well.

Outside is a positive meh, but the interior is super nice. the one in blue looks so much better.
I think it looks a bit more American than the caddy. It's got a certain vibe.
Looking at the pics, the interior has a lot of quality materials. Yay, no fake wood on the door panels.

It'll have a 280HP 2.3T engine and an upcoming performance biased hybrid similar to the Aviator's Grand Touring hybrid.

Yea, I read that but also saw where they have some options that aren't finalized either. A baby CUV with five engine options?? Give customers what they want!!!

Everything is great except for the that fugly central console. Even the ambient lighting is there...

And the door panels look good.

Hate to say, but they've schooled Cadillac once again. Even with that weird central part.

Re: 2020 Lincoln Corsair revealed with baby Aviator looks

After bumping into an industry person at NYIAS I've learned more info. Don't expect this to be a superior to the upcoming Audi Q3 in terms of all around drive but it's going to be a great cruiser. They didn't do a clean sheet redo on this model as it shares the hard points with its predecessor.

Yes, many times. Cadillac even paid the Four Seasons here to display one in the entry way. It's nice and looks better than a Mercedes GLA. Oozes luxury though? Going to disagree there, especially when it comes to that coarse power plant that makes itself apparent once you start moving.

This looks cheap as hell compared to the XT4 I see lots of cheap plastic in the interior especially in the pic above of the dash and door. Only on GMI does this look better than the XT4. Ridiculous

Only on GMI is the XT4 interior "better".

They both look fantastic but the Corsair gives you something the XT4 doesn't, OPTIONS. Guess what luxury is about?? Options!!!!

Don't like the blacked out A pillar and the weird space between the bottom of the DRL to the Lower LED strip...Interior is a 10/10 for the segment. To paraphrase Spaceballs, this is a "shot up the XT4s nose"
