2019 BMW X7 First Drive: Is it Worth $74K tho? And that BIG NOSE!

Even though its price tag might seem high to the hoi polloi ($73,900 for the I6, $92,600for the V8), the upper end of its window sticker is actually competitive with similarly equipped offerings from Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover. A V8 Mercedes GLS-Class, for example, starts at $95,000, while a V8 Range Rover just crests $100,000.

The X7 is a crossover of compromise. It's not excessively large, which means cargo and people occasionally do battle for the space inside. It's engineered to not be a total snooze-fest, so there's a balancing act between fun and comfort that inevitably leaves some material on the cutting room floor.

Sure it's worth $74k for the B58 equipped XDrive40i version. Despite the compromises described in the CNET article, BMW G07 is still among the best vehicles in the big honkin' utility class.

I don't particularly like this class of vehicles, and would never consider purchasing a G07 new or used. But the SUV/SAV segment is where the action's at. BMW will have no trouble finding buyers for every G07 they're able to produce at their plant in South Carolina.

The interior is beautiful, but the exterior doesn't look like much, it's nice, but not unique other than the oversized BMW grill.

The Germans know what to do with rwd cars to make them look special and like nothing else on the road. But to my eyes they struggle with utilitarian nature of SUV/CUV's to make them look like something different, therefore worth the price of admission.

Yup. Plus, the X7's maintenance costs are covered for the first three years.

Three years of kibble purchases won't come cheap!

Maybe not eat my shoes, but given BMW reliability, and cost of fix after warranty it could have me waring some shoes out while it sits crapped out in my yard.. 😉 OH!!! That boy's WIT!

You can buy truckloads for kibble for 75grand. Maybe a shipping containers worth.

I'd let the dog crap in my shoe and eat my yard then let this pig devour my wallet.

Then again these German cars aren't supposed to be kept past 3 years anyway.

It looks................ odd, from the front. The rest is fine.

The interior is very nice. Light and airy. Cadillac needs to take note on the light and airy thing. It makes an interior feel bigger. This is why I keep the shade on my panoramic sunroof open all year except the summer. I don't particularly care for the dark interior in my Explorer Sport, but the open shade helps.

"trying to imagine a shipping container of 'processed' kibble in the yard"

Plus, you could drive this X7 thing to work.............

The irony in your amusement Bamm-bamm is while I don't find this thing all that attractive, straight-on, it actually doesn't look that bad.

Re: 2019 BMW X7 First Drive: Is it Worth $74K tho? And that BIG NOSE!

X7 and XT6 are both equally ugly on the outside.

However, here are 75,000 reasons why the X7 is better overall than XT6:

That's the level of detail I expect out of Cadillac for $75,000. And that's coming from BMW, a brand that generally is known for subpar interiors. Good for them though, they've put out some really nice interiors the last 5 years or so. Cadillac meanwhile, has gone backwards.

Granted the BMW interior isn't perfect, with the biggest flaw being the black plastic near the door handle, but otherwise it's a damn nice interior with A+ attention to details and design. Cadillac needs to take a long hard look at that, and other cars in that class and see exactly why their interiors are so woefully short of the mark.
