If you read carefully what they actually want, you'll realize they want control, away from you and into their hands.
They want to kill car ownership, haven't you noticed where all the roads go?

I guess in the future, you'll be able to finance your new electric, autonomous GM rides along with your refrigerator, and stove?

Exactly - apparently cars are just appliances at GM now.

But... That's an anomaly because it doesn't fit in with Mother Barra's all electric future.

Mother Barrah's daughter will soon marry, she will go to be grandma and sanity will return to the gasoline halls of GM

Ok...so I'm of the opinion that we can't burn dead dinosaurs forever so they'll eventually have to be a shift towards EVs...right now the fastest of the fast chargers can get close to 80% full capacity in 30 mins and that is a huge leap over where the tech was just a couple years ago...I'd say in another 5 years battery/charging tech will be where you can get that 80% charge +/- 200mi range in about 10 mins which would be where you'll see more mainstream proliferation of EVs. And then you'll see the infrastructure building to support mainstream EVs. Like it or not, the ICE age is at its twilight and GM would be better pressed to not be caught with its pants down.

Not all of us subscribe to the "dead dinosaur" hypothesis. Didn't we hit "peak oil" some years back?

IMO the dino hypothesis is scientifically-akin to "the world will end in 12 years" crock, but without the get-rich-quick and destroy-civilization aspects to it.

A simple search reveals many sources, many of them surprising.

In other words, as Science magazine has reported, the "data imply that hydrocarbons are produced chemically" from carbon found in Earth's mantle. Nature magazine calls the product of this process an "unexpected bounty " of "natural gas and the building blocks of oil products."
