    Angry Bad paint job

I know this is probable an old subject but every time I look at my truck and see sheets of paint fly off it just makes me very unhappy. Its a 97 but the paint started coming off in 2001. I am surprised on just how many others are like that. Sure if I could afford a $5500 paint job I probably wouldn't even whine but because the paint or the painting process was sub-standard at the time it was built Is kind of weak. Nothing like a 97 3500 CC/Dually with a rusted roof and more and more falling off every day. A 22 year old (190,000 Miles ) shouldn't look like this considering that its a street truck.

I am not sure where you live BUT EVERY car MADE IN AMERICA foreign included has bad paint in the mid to late 90's due to EPA rules and "NEW" water based paint processes - even in the FAR north in Canada we have paint loss / peeling / fading away

I had a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse bought it brand new in December of 1992 by December of 1993 I had to leave it with the dealer to be repainted the roof hood and rear decklid paint had cracked and felt like sandpaper. I got it back a week later and by December of 1994 the same thing was happening.

To be honest most trucks that age are sitting in junk yards or have already been sorted out and recycled by now. 1990's gm had major clear coat and primer issues at the time with sheets of paint peeling off and eventually turning the unprotected spot into rust. I agree it sucks but it is what it is or i should say gm is what it is. Dont get it fixed and repainted and obviously the problem will just snowball but that is kind of your fault not gm's.

    Uh-Oh! Better Get Maaco.

Had to get my 86 Olds Calais repainted this summer. Low rent GM paint should have lasted 40 years instead of giving out so early.
