Wow, the 2014 Tundra getting bad reviews

People are gushing over the new Silverado-Sierra, the Impala getting top billing on consumer reports.......................and now Toyota getting bad reviews?

What is going on? Never thought I would see the day

    http://www.autoblog.com/2013/07/30/2...w-first-drive/

"But where does the segment leave a truck from an automaker that has chosen to no longer fight and deliver its best product? What kind of vehicle comes from a company that has relinquished any desire to strive for the top of the class – one who is now content offering nothing more than minor updates and mediocrity in an aim to placate brand loyalists?

Such a calculated underachiever would look a lot like the 2014 Toyota Tundra."

Wow, is right. I wan't expecting such a review. It seemed fair, but harshly truthful. Maybe Toyota is just focusing on making the Truck reliable again.

the Turdra looks like an Asian F-150. It's ironic the picture of the truck is brown.

Put a Chevy or GMC badge on it and your eyes would be just fine. Massive grill and tons of chrome is straight out of the domestic truck design playbook and this thing looks just as overwrought as any of them.

Toyota has given up on this segment for good cause. No one buys these. Loyalty runs deep with trucks, and it's not worth tons of investment and marketing to push a product that few will ever be interested in anyway. Their fake attempts at being "American" with the marketing for the Tundra failed too.

I have no problem with chrome and bling, but Toyota's design has no flow. It just looks like a bunch of pieces from the junkyard were pasted on the front of the truck.

It clearly looks like they went after the F150 design wise, which is no surprise since the F150 dominates truck sales. I didn't say it was pretty, just that none of the other trucks in the class really are either. The new Silvy for example has a shnoz with a huge ton of chrome, bling to the max. Put a Toyota badge on it and "my eyes" would be Plane's response.

Untrue. It looks like they grabbed a bunch of pieces from the junkyard, CHROMED THEM, and pasted them on the front.

It's not often in a world that so frequently sugar coats things that a review really sticks it to a vehicle manufacturer. This is one. Wow.

Re: Wow, the 2014 Tundra getting bad reviews

The picture Smokyn454 posted I do not like, in the Autoblog article there is a picture near the end with 4 different Tundra's, each with a different grill. Two are heavy on the chrome which I find very overdone, but the other two are toned down and look much better. In profile it looks fine.... I don't like the interior, way too much going on, there are heavy horizontal and vertical lines, circles, etc. all over the place, not my cup of tea.

Very surprising that Toyota more or less gave up, I'd think to penetrate such a tough market they'd have to keep building the best truck and slowly build a reputation over the years to gain market share. Has Toytota lost the patience it had in the 1980's and 1990's that built them into one of the worlds largest automakers? Does it now expect that consumers will flock to its vehicles just because it says "Toyota" but doesn't know what to do if they don't flock? Is this GM-like arrogance or a product of budget cutbacks from the tsunami/floods and bad exchange rates (for Toyota) over the past 5 years (that are now improving for them)?
