Thoughts on the All-New 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander

I recently watched Mitsubishi's new ad for the Outlander and was delightfully surprised by the features that were being promoted by the product. In addition, I spotted one driving during dusk hours several weeks ago and saw it had HID headlamps and I did not expect to see that. After seeing the ad a number of times, I decided to check out the website and noticed the 100 features list they have up on there and it's quite impressive. Astounishing really; it trumps the competition in almost everything.

This product from Mitsubishi is their best yet in a long time and may do what it is intended to do, help turn the company around. The design is fresh and exciting inside-out and the quality seems there.

What are your thoughts on the new Mitsubishi Outlander?

Check it out if you haven't:

The outside looks pretty good except for the Lexus RX tail lights. The interior though seems just bland and boring to me.

The car really is all new. If I remember correctly, the new Outlander's platform is based on platform that the new Lancer will sit on, which itself is loosely based on the DCX's Caliber/Compass platform.

The new Outlander was Japan's best selling SUV for a while after it came out. I think that says a lot because the multipurpose vehicle market in Japan is pretty competitive.

this is the best to come from mitsu in the non-performance department in a while, but i never did think their cars are so bad, they were all pretty good at what they are designed to do, but just middle of the pack, sort of like gm.

Take note of the leather padded door armrest GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

I've seen the commercials and I'm very impressed. O and its got some crazy flipping DVD option..not sure if fold to flat service when off to hide it or something. Its impressive when most people consider Mitsu off the map and then they fire back with this.

Sales of this SUV in Japan were responsible for pulling Mitsubishi out of the red. It remains to be seen if it can pull off the same feat in America. The Outlander and new Lancer will decide Mitsubishi's future in America.

It looks like a clone of several other foreign crossovers currently on the market (Lexus RX, Kia Sorrento & 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe come to mind). Very obvious cookie-cutter design, but not bad looking overall. Something that, IMO, couldn't be said regarding most Mitsubishi models in recent years.

Don't like that rear end at all, never saw it from that angle before.

Interior sucks except for gauge cluster and parts of the door panels.
