Subaru has confirmed plans to build a new three-row crossover model at its Lafayette, Indiana, factory.
The mystery model promises to be larger than its predecessor, the retired Tribeca, and outfitted with a "full third-row capability" that presumably offers seating for seven occupants.
A name has not been finalized, however Subaru vows to keep an "outdoor adventure" theme consistent with its siblings -- the Outback, Forester and Crosstrek.
The company has already revealed a seven-seater concept for the Japanese market, simply called the Crossover 7 (pictured), that first appeared in 2013. Its design takes a more Outback-like approach than the Tribeca, with a spacious interior that can be easily converted from seating to stowage.
Separate unconfirmed reports suggest the design direction for a US production model has been surrounded by controversy. The company is said to be focusing on a more conservative look than the Tribeca, but leaders are said to have disagreed over wether to draw inspiration from the Forester or Outback.
