Rav 4 to Launch with a 4 Speed Automatic

Although Europeans enjoy a choice of gas or diesel engines, we were told that all U.S. models will come with a 2.0-liter inline four making 155 hp. Transmission choices remain a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. And all models will have four-wheel drive as well as standard stability control, the latter a new feature for the RAV4.

That's the 4cyl model. The V6 will most likely come with a 5 speed.

Well, of course Toyota's 4-speed is going to be better, it's not like GM invented the automatic transmission or anything important for that matter

the reason GM still uses the 4 coggers is that they are near perfection now. in terms of smoothness and reliability, nobody, NOBODY, makes a better tranny.

Re: Rav 4 to Launch with a 4 Speed Automatic

I do have to agree that GM's 4-speeds are great, but the transmissions need to be changed over to 5 and 6-speed autos, which I know is in the works. The 5-speed auto in the CTS/SRX is great...

I will take a Lexus 5 speed over a GM four speed anyday. The 4 speed in the Denali I recently drove was lacking a 5th gear. The Sequioa I drove made you forget the truck didn't make 280hp.

My parents four speed in there caddy didn't last past 100k. I guess that is reliable for a GM.

Well, certainly not every single tranny off the line will be long lasting. This is true of any brand. I'm sorry that your parents were not as fortunate as many that have trannies (including from GM) that last more than twice that. My tranny went bad at 75k in my Accord (waiting for the bashing ) but that doesn't seem to make all the Honda worshipers cry foul. You never know what your gonna get, unfortunately, no matter who makes your car.

    You were told wrong.

All 4 cyl Rav 4s will be 2.4L inline fours with about 166HP. The 4 cyl models will come with 4 speed autos (and possibly 5 speed stick, Toyota has yet to release the info).

The V6 will get the 5 speed auto.

This is all straight from Toyota's website.

if you got the V6 with auto, from around 200 model, then it was bound to fail, honda had problems on those

Won't be from me. I've heard some stories involving Accords devouring their transmissions at seemingly early mileage...

My SAAB's 5-speed is pretty good... why GM aren't using it across the board is beyond me...
