Nissan, Japan reject merger overture from Renault chief, report says

I saw that article from Automotive News from a post on Allpar.
    https://www.allpar.com/forums/thread...rtures.219649/
    https://www.autonews.com/executives/...ef-report-says

Nissan and the government of Japan have spurned efforts by Nissan's French partner, Renault, to engage in merger talks, the Financial Times reported.

Relations between the partner companies, already tense because of the arrest of former alliance leader Carlos Ghosn in Japan, have hit a new low after the latest snubs, the FT reported, citing a person familiar with the situation.

Ghosn had been seen as guiding the companies toward a merger when he was charged last November with financial misconduct at Nissan.

Tensions rose after a dinner in Paris in mid-April where Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa told Renault CEO Thierry Bollore and Jean-Dominique Senard, the French automaker's chairman, that Nissan was not interested in a full merger at this point, the FT reported.

Under the proposal, each company would own about a 50 percent stake in the holding company and have equal board representation, a person familiar with the plan told Bloomberg last week, asking not to be named discussing confidential deliberations. The entity would be headquartered outside France or Japan, possibly in Singapore, the person said.

Well what Renault should do is appeal to Monsenior Macaroni to grab Abe by the lapels and shake him until he surrenders like it's 1945.

Wait, Japan didn't surrender to France?

Ummm, well, just tell Macaroni to lay down the law with the Japanese, maybe mail Abe a few yellow vests and...

Ummm, no, that might not work. But I'm sure Monsieur Macaroni is a very very persuasive...

Monsenior Macaroni? You men John Elkann, the chairman of Exor and heir of the Agnelli family?

I guess Renault might need a "plan b" in case of an upcoming divorce.

The French have been had, used and discarded. The warlords still run the show over there.

Nissan general-manager still opposed to a complete fusion between Nissan and Renault. https://www.leblogauto.com/2019/05/s...lt-nissan.html

The warlords' last war didn't go so great, and neither has their management of Nissan-Renault minus Carlos who apparently had a better handle on things than the current band of merry pranksters.

Wide eyed Ghosn made Nissan a pervayour of Cheap CVT rides and effectively ceded Nissans position to Kia and Hyundai.
Not that the Warlords were any better before he came along.
Nissan Seats are aweful, the only one with worse sits is Toyota.

To quote one of my heroes, what difference does it make?

And a Fusion? Isn't that a Ford? What's going on here anyway?

H&K took that turf, the days of H/K being "cheap cars" are long gone, my friend. There are still plenty of inexpensive ones on the lots, but it's not 2004 any more.

I thought the Zero Gravity Seats were supposed to be the cat's meow. I haven't been in a Niss since maybe 2010 or 2011, so I'm relying on others' reports here.

The only thing the French improve is cheese and their girls are very nice. And that is not sexist

Re: Nissan, Japan reject merger overture from Renault chief, report says

    Slightly off-topic but I spotted this. https://www.insidercarnews.com/the-u...ssans-problem/

It’s come out that Nissan is in serious financial trouble, and the company has identified the source of many of its problems: the United States. Missteps in this highly competitive market is costing the automaker dearly, and now CEO Hiroto Saikawa says changes are coming.

To be clear, Nissan is not pulling out of the United States. This is the most profitable market for the company, so instead Nissan looks to change how it conducts business in America.

First, Nissan profit margins for the U.S. are razor thin at about 1 to 2 percent. Saikawa said that’s “rock bottom” for the company and has declared those numbers will increase. He also stated that troubles in the U.S. were created by Carlos Ghosn and his disciples, which is why management here is getting cleaned out.

Before, Nissan’s focus in North America was simply capturing 10 percent market share. It hit that number for 2017 by focusing on shopper incentives and fleet sales. Those are the same pitfalls GM fell into, which aren’t great places for any automaker to spend time. As a result, the Nissan brand has been cheapened in the eyes of U.S. consumers. Also, Nissan was making decisions that hurt profit margins.

One adjustment we’ve already seen is fewer shopper incentives. Fleet sales are being reduced. It also cut back production in Canton, Miss. Next up are complete overhauls on several popular models, like the upcoming next-generation Frontier pickup truck and the Rogue crossover.
