    Next Hyundai Elantra Leaked

Hyundai's future models have a tendency to leak out of the South Korean market before they are shown elsewhere, and that appears to be the case with the next-gen Elantra. According to Indian Autos Blog, the official unveiling isn't scheduled in South Korea until April, but at least one shot of the upcoming sedan is online a few weeks early.

Based on this single photo of the front of the car, Hyundai's designers are vastly altering the Elantra's styling for its latest generation, moving it closer to the current Sonata. The grille receives the wide, trapezoidal shape from the latest members of the brand's lineup, and the headlights wear a more angular look, as well. This image also barely shows an arching crease running up the side through the door handles.

It wouldn't be a Hyundai thread without a "Looks like..." comment... but I see echos of that Toyota fuel cell thingy in the front end, which can't be good...

Quite nice, I'm sure it will do well.

Looks really good IMO. Looks like Hyundai is changing their design language.

Oh no, the guy worked up about hexagonal grills is going to have a heart attack after seeing this one.

    Hexagonal grille? Check.
Slanted foglights/turn signal lights as seen in Toyota/Lexus/next-gen Chevy? Check.
Falling character line as made popular by Cadillac 20 years ago? Check.

Generic design 101, you have passed, Hyundai...

Never been a fan of the current Elantra, having said that, overall Hyundai's looks have improved greatly over the last 5 years. This appears to now follow the rest of the family.

Hyundai was doing the hexa-grill shape all the way back in 2005-6; Audi, Subie, Datsun, Toyota, etc. all started doing it later.

And oh, that whole elongated, stretched towards the A-pillar headlights, predominantly placed at the side and not intruding into the hoodline - that pretty much everyone is doing these days? Hyundai also started doing that long ago.

And this really isn't a new look for Hyundai.

It's basically the same design elements w/ just a diff. grill treatment (horizontal grill slats).

Would it be insensitive to state I prefer the present Elantra styling compared to this spy shot.

Oh no, looks like the Sonata had a baby. I like the current one too. So much so that for me personally, I think it is one of the better looking small cars on the market right now.

That's EXTREMELY derivative. You could easily swap the Hyundai badge for a Honda, Toyota, or Ford badge without too much visual questioning.

    Re: Next Hyundai Elantra Leaked

^ I can see Ford or Subie since they have also gone all in w/ regard to the hexagonal grill and stretched, elongated headlight, but not Toyota and Honda.

If it had more rectangular shaped headlights (like on the Optima), would throw in Audi as well.

Hasn't this pic been debunked as a shopped 2016 i40?
