Mazda3 = Cruze sizewise. Mazda2 (not sold in US except as small Toyota/ex-Scion) = Sonic.

Front seats are all the way back in the Mazda3 photos. That limits the back seat size greatly. Yes, the C pillar is a big metal slab blocking light and views, but GMI is the place where the alternative fixed third window gets trashed too

The back seat of the Toyota C-HR is actually much worse for the upswept rear window blocking light and life

I looked into future and seen GM will drop Sonic in couple of years.

Furthermore, Sonic is Mazda 2 size, not Mazda 3.

The 3 hatch looks great - should have been a 3 door though.

Most buyers of compact hatchbacks are not going to have an issue with the rear "anything".

yeah but the kids will have their eyes glued to their phone so it probably won't affect most buyers.

guarantee that this will be fine when you see it in person, it’s a dreadful camera angle but I do agree the HB is looking more like a four door coupe

Re: New Mazda3 Hatchback Is Stunning - Unless...

I'm not as impressed with Mazda now as I have been in the past 5-10 years. When we stopped buying new GM Cars, we went to Kia and Mazda, but mostly Mazda. We bought a brand new 2018 CX-5, 2017 CX-3, 2016 CX-5, 2015 Mazda 3, and 2014 Mazda 6, and generally liked most of them. But I have a problem with what Mazda has been doing lately.

-Engines/powertrain. The skyactive 2.5 with their 6 speed auto was a good combination back in 2014, but it is now 2020 and they are still releasing brand new cars with the same engine and transmission. Not good.

-Our 2018 CX-5, despite the reviews, is a step back from our 2016. The 2018 has worse visibility, doesn't handle or ride any different/better, but weighs a good 250 lbs more and is noticeably slower.

-The new CX-30 might have been nice, but what were they thinking with that huge plastic over the wheel wells? And yes, the same 2.5 engine and transmission that has been around for years.

-The new Mazda 3. it looks good, but the same old powertrain....and it is harder to get into and out of than our 2015 Mazda 3, has a less comfortable front seat, and doesn't perform much better.

Among their followers, Mazda had that 'sporty' reputation back 5-7 years ago....and now they haven't really done anything to their powertrains...yet their vehicles are heavier, slower, the same or less fuel efficient and less comfortable/harder to see out of than they were 5-7 years ago.
