The Mirai is just about here...

I guess I wasn't paying close attention. Either that or I just forgot it was going to be available in the fall. But Toyota really got this one going quickly...

It’s almost here, and California customers will soon be able to request their own 2016 Toyota Mirai. And why wouldn’t they?

The Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle uses no gasoline and emits nothing but water vapor. It’s the only zero emission electric vehicle on the market that tops the 300 mile range milestone (an EPA estimated driving range rating of 312 miles, to be exact) and offers an EPA estimated 67 mpge city/highway/combined. It should be sold nationwide and built to order

I'm tired of interesting cars that are limited to California and Oregon, we have souls too!

I'm thinking Toyota wants to recreate the Prius, but the difference is I can see how the nerdy look of the Prius might appeal to some (not me). I'd be surprised if anyone finds anything appealing about the Mirai's looks. Cool engine tech, but ouch, this isn't a face even a mother could love.

If I could afford it I would buy it. The only reason for me not to do so would be because it is a Toyota. It is not too ugly to own.

Because it's a $60K Corolla and the most grotesque thing ever unleashed on public roads?

I'd drive one. I'd also drive a BMW i3 and I think it looks worse than the Mirai. I haven't sat in a Mirai yet but the i3 is somehow roomy inside. At least for the front passengers...
