Lexus teases Evoque-fighting crossover ahead of Beijing debut

Lexus teases Evoque-fighting crossover ahead of Beijing debut

Lexus has published a teaser image to preview the upcoming NX, a compact crossover aimed at the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The NX will greet the public for the first time at the Beijing Motor Show that will open its doors to the press next month.

The crossover is essentially a toned-down version of the LF-NX concept that was presented in Frankfurt last September and again in Tokyo last November. The teaser image confirms the production version of the crossover will wear a more conservative version of Lexus' trademark spindle grille and a softer front end but the concept's chiseled silhouette will remain roughly intact.

The NX is one ugly bitch! I don't know what Lexus was thinking when they green light it.

Hahaha It appears that we have different definitions of the word cute.

What is the Toyota equivalent, I wonder?

Nice to see Range Rover defining the market.

My understanding is that it is loosely based on RAV4 platform. But Lexus models are pretty much separate platforms from mainstream Toyota platforms, except for the ES. Lexus prides itself for having dedicated luxury platforms instead of being just "pimped up" mainstream cars.

Well, the idea for a while was to make all/most Lexuses on a dedicated platform. But that has since changed over the course of 5 years.

The HS, CT, ES, GS, RX, GX, and LX are all based on Toyota platforms or have a Toyota counterpart. That just leaves the IS, LS, and LF-A as "Lexus" platforms. Though the LS used to be sold as a Toyota in Japan. And IS used to be the Altezza.

There really is no "dedicated luxury platform," similar to how some Audi's sit on Audi exclusive platforms.

In addition, the GS sits on a stretched IS platform (similar to the CTS sitting on a stretched version of the platform underpinning the ATS).

Toyota uses that platform as the basis for its Crown Series; however, Toyota stretches that platform even further for the Crown Majesta which they consider to be on the same level of the LS.

I'm more interested in the next Camry. The current one is dud-like.

Ugly as sin (even though nobody has actually seen it yet). Give me a Equinox clone Cadillac SRX with wavy sheet metal and UAW slackjaw assembly quality anyday!

The GS and IS sit on their own platform, soon will be joined by the RC. The LS is also on its own platform. The Altezza was the counterpart to the IS300, which was a different platform from the IS350 and new IS, and therefore irrelevant. Similarly the LS stopped being sold as a Toyota in Japan when the 2007 model launched, and it too was on a different platform.

As for the NX, pics for clicks please, you can post a media image, it's only spyshots and copyrighted photos that are questionable.

The NX is said to be based off the RAV-4, it's not going after the Evoque as much, instead more targeted at the GLA, Q3, and X1.
