    Hyundai Sonata Road Test

    http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/N.../Act/Roadtest/

It seems the only thing they really like about it is the fact that ABS and Stability control are standard. They say the same thing about malibu and just about every other midsize car out there that it can't match the class leading accord but...

Seems to me they like it alright. It tops almost all of the categories (higher than average scores for the LX and V6 models). On paper the 235 hp sounds more than adequate for sure! And for snooty shoppers, this thing offers something no Buick sedan does: a 5-speed auto transmission. Not saying that's the be-all and end-all... but it's an interesting point nonetheless.

I wonder what they think of the "class leading" Accord's transmission?

once GM gets the 6-speed, they'll be class leading since GM's transmission kick the crap out of the competitions.

One thing about the '06 Sonata that just broke cover is that it's only 24% sourced in America. Not fond of that fact, and you're sure not gonna hear about it in the ads. Also, so far, it appears that 100% of 4-cylinder versions and V-6 engines have come from Korea, so Alabama is far from up to speed. Kind of like GMs SLOW ramp-ups of late. That's OK, I guess.

Seems to me they liked alot more than that. It matches their highest overall score for its class. No car is going to win every category in its class, after all.

Hyundai said from the beginning that the V6 Sonatas will be built in Alabama, but the 4-cylinders will continue to be imported from South Korea. There's no trickery happening here.

only 24%, that's not 100% truthful though according to what wpbharry said

That figure must be a mistake as it's also the number listed for the U.S./Canadian sourced parts on Korean-made 2006 Sonatas.
The percentages can't be the same.
For the U.S.-built Sonata, I would say about 80% of the parts are U.S./Canadian.
Go to the factory website to see the list of suppliers; www.hmmausa.com.
Also all V-6 engines are assembled at the Alabama plant.

Second shift will be added soon, if not happened already, sometime next week. They'll crank up the V6 production volume and start building the L4 as planned.
