    Hyundai Reports New Sales Record for September With Nine Percent Increase Over 2004

    FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America sold 38,214 units during the month of September, posting a nine percent increase compared with a year ago and its best September ever. Hyundai's Accent, Small car segment winner in the 2005 Strategic Vision Total Quality Study, posted its best retail sales month for the year. The Sonata continued to gain momentum with its second month in a row over 10,000 sales. Elantra continued as Hyundai's volume leader with sales of 10,758 units.

    "We're very pleased to see Sonata continues to gain momentum as consumers experience its class leading safety, equipment levels, and value," said Ed Bradley, vice-president, National Sales for Hyundai. "Additionally, as consumers look for more fuel efficient vehicles in the face of rising gas prices, Sonata, as well as Accent and Elantra demand continues to rise."

    Personally I prefer to see Hyundai gain at the expense of the Japanese manufacturers. Are Koreas trade practices fair? Do they fiddle with their currency to the detriment of the US auto market?

    I don't think Hyundai's gain came from taking from the Japanese brands, as Toyota, Honda, Nissan all had record months and continued to gain market share. The only companies to lose market share were GM and Ford, so I belive Hyundai's gain came at the expense of GM and Ford.

    every single korean exporter is given substantial tax rebates by their govt; loans at rock bottom rates and the domestic prices are far higher than the international prices. some years ago govt troops (police and military) had to open fire on protestors who were quetioning the above policies!

    samsung, lg and hynix have almost bankrupted micron because of the above predatory practices;

    regarding the japanese manipulation of the yen; this is no more than the fed's alan greenspan's manipulation of the dollar by keeping interest rates artificially low, thereby causing movement out of the dollar and into foreign currencies!

    all throughout the last 3 decades the feds have been selling gold in order to achieve the dollar value that they perceive is best for ameirca's interest!

    its merely a question of the pot calling the kettle black!

    If the US gov't was as protectionist as you say, ricers, we wouldn't have witnessed the decline of nearly every one of our industries.

    Hyundai is worse than the Japanese. Its not even public. It’s controlled by the ruling elite in Korea.
    Korea is an extremely feudal society

    Ah, interesting stuff. It truly was a question... so often people here are sarcastic and SAY things in the form of a question! I really wanted to know.

    Hmmm... how does this affect how GMDAT works? I suppose the Korean government would be happy to be selling vehicles in other markets. Are they kinda supporting GM then?

    Are they supporting GM then? Not really, It’s a consequence of their folly.. GM took advantage of their failing political patronage system… and will eventually bring sanity to their auto manufacturing

    I just don't get it. There are a few Kia's that I think are OK looking but all of the Hyundai's are just plain ugly to me. The new Sonata looks like a late 90's Accord in person. What am i not seeing? Is it price?
