Future US Hyundai and Kia Products

    http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102997

(There's no easy way to summarize this article. It includes a table and a description of each of the upcoming vehicles. Good article.)

    Impressive...six airbags?!?

Accent The redesigned 2006 Accent arrives in dealerships in December. The car's wheelbase and overall length are two inches longer than its predecessor's; the car also is one inch wider and three inches taller. Two models are planned: a three-door hatchback and a four-door sedan.

The more-powerful 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine features variable-valve timing and delivers 110 hp. Standard features will include six airbags, antilock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, halogen headlamps and CD stereo with XM satellite radio.

Sounds like they're making a good effort to improve their line ups. For their sake I hope they can improve quality along with these new cars.

I was surprised that Hyundai's actually going forward with the Sonata coupe and convertible. No wagon, though, this time around.

I guess with the 3.3L going in the new Sedona, there isn't enough capacity to put it in the new Optima at the start. IMO, they shouldn't bother introducing the Optima until the 3.3L can go in it. With the old 2.7L, it'll never sell anywhere close to the Sonata. Optima is also a few inches shorter than the Sonata; interesting.

Yikes, that sounds like some pretty interesting stuff. Too bad the big 3 didn't have the necessary quality to squash these guys when they had the chance. The pie keeps getting cut into smaller and smaller pieces...

Also noticed that this list indicates that the Hyundai sedan above the Azera (RWD) will use the same 3.8L V-6 as the Azera, not a V-8. Bet a V-8 ends up as an option.

Here's a new spy shot of the '07 Santa Fe:

I've seen better spy shots of it. It looks remarkably similar to a Toureg (I can never spell that name).

The list indicates no plans to redo the Kia Amanti. Bet that happens before '09, on the Azera's platform (which is really the Sonata's platform).

GM missed their chance with the Japanese, and now the Koreans. Let's hope they get back on the ball by the time the Chinese arrive.
