2016 Honda Pilot vs. The Competition.

The 2016 Honda Pilot takes on the 2015 Ford Explorer, 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, 2015 Toyota Highlander, 2015 Chevy Traverse and 2015 Honda Pilot. These are all three row all-wheel-drive Crossovers that serve as today's modern family trucksters. So, which of these large crossovers is the best buy?
In another classic TFL Mega Mashup comparison review we find out.

I would go with the Explorer l, but that's me. Saying the Traverse is getting old is and understatement, the thing needs a complete makeover soon. Highlander is nice, but meh. I don't care about the Pathfinder. The Pilot is a nice evolution and it gets improved on the important areas. It's a ugly btch, though.

I'm a big Explorer fan, but the new Pilot looks like its a very well thought-out vehicle. While the trend is towards swoopy at the expense of space, the Pilot smartly foregoes form for function, and that boxy passenger compartment looks very useable. Just as I like seeing Ford stick to a traditional sedan design for their new Taurus, I applaud Honda for building a modern equivalent of the original Explorer.

The Lambdas are definitely getting old, but still hanging tough. Their size is a huge advantage and one of the reasons they do so well. The new ones are coming for the 2017MY, but they look like they are going to take a substantial reduction in size and are moving to E2XX platform.

If I was in the market for a new CUV, I'd have a hard time buying something other than an Enclave/Acadia Denali. I do like the current Explorer though, especially with the larger EcoBoost motor. The Highlander they showed seemed nice as well. Neither the Honda, nor the Nissan are impressive to me.

Re: 2016 Honda Pilot vs. The Competition.

The Honda, Toyota, and Ford seem like the nicest options that are shown here. Of course, this is ignoring some obvious competitors like the Sante Fe, CX-9, and my personal favorite, the Durango. The next CX-9 will be interesting.

All of that aside, Honda appears to have a nice product. The Pilot was taken solidly upmarket with the higher end trims just as they should be doing as well.

I rented a Traverse in North Carolina for two weeks. I was so impressed with the size and utility it offered, plus, the nice solid ride and excellent highway manners.

I hope GM keeps it the same size, thinking it will not sell as well as a smaller crossover.

Hmmm, should they use the 'New Kids on the Block' for a retro commercial for the Traverse...?

If they downsize the Lambdas, it'll be the dumbest downsizing since 1986.

    Durango R/T?

Although I guess one could argue it's not a crossover; it's not built on a "car" platform.

I doubt he had the second row seat of the Traverse all the way back. I own one (2013) and Second and 3rd row space was a reason we took it over Highlander.

We almost bought a Pathfinder when they first came out. They have an incredible amount of technology, have great room and are really thought out for a family.

GM is riding the Lambda name to the grave. New vehicles cant get here fast enough.

A 2013 Highlander, which would have been the old one, right? I seriously doubt you considered a Highlander, but whatever...........

Do you have the buckets or bench in the 2nd row? I wanted the bench in the 2nd row, because with the 3rd row folded down for storage/load/cargo, you basically have a 4-seater.

The 2nd row bench is like sitting on a 1980's school bus seat.
