The 2006 Infiniti Lineup – Charting the Changes (now w/pictures)

The 2006 Infiniti Lineup – Charting the Changes [Aug. 16, 05]

Infiniti set a third consecutive sales record in 2005 and surpassed the 1 million mark in cumulative sales since its inception in 1989. In 2006, Infiniti ushers in yet another exciting product lineup, led by the vibrant, all-new Infiniti M.

New to the lineup for 2006, the Infiniti M is positioned between the award-winning G35 sedan and the Q45 premium luxury sedan. The recipient of numerous media accolades, the M is a true harmony of sensuous styling, engaging technology and driving excitement.

In addition to the M, Infiniti continues to refine its lineup. The Infiniti FX gets an exterior facelift, added standard interior features and the FX45 gets the Premium Package contents as standard equipment; the G35 sedan offers Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system; the G35 coupe adds a new Premium Package with Intelligent Key and available Rear Active Steer; Q45 gets a new Sport model with Rear Active Steer, revised transmission with new torque converter and Rev Matching and available Lane Departure Warning; and the QX56 features a new 60/40 split 3rd row seat, power folding mirrors with heat and power adjust and Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system.

In 2006, as always, Infiniti remains one of the leaders in the automotive industry in the development of new automotive technology, including the advanced ATTESA E-TS™ all-wheel drive system utilized in the new M35x, FX and G35x sedan, RearView Monitor, Intelligent Key, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Active Steer, Pre-Crash Seat Belts and many other systems.

Following is an overview of the Infiniti Division products for the 2006 model year...

You'll note at the bottom of the article they state that they have tested the 2006 FX45's horsepower rating under the revised SAE standard. It's rating went up to 320hp (from 315).

Impressive linup. I especially like the look and power of the new M series. Looks like Infiniti is still on a roll.

Re: The 2006 Infiniti Lineup – Charting the Changes

Infiniti has a pretty impressive lineup, but most of the interiors give me the impression of being cheap. I love the FX45 on the exterior and performance, but the interior just ruined it for me. The G35 coupe is a sharp looking car that shouldn't have any trouble selling, but again, the interior lets me down. Then we come to the M. What a dramatic change. Not only is the car beautiful and quick, but the interior (imho) is drop dead gorgeous. Infiniti nailed that one and it gives me belief that if Infiniti redoes its interiors like the M, it would be a serious contender in the luxury car segment.

As it stands right now, I'm not sure I'd take Infiniti over Lexus, but I don't think I would have any trouble taking an Infiniti over a BMW or Mercedes - just fix the interiors Infiniti!

I think Infiniti did a great job redesigning the M.

There are now pictures of the 2006 models: http://www.infinitinews.com/multimedia/infiniti.shtml

I think the largest improvement is the FX's new interior.

Holy crap. Much improved. It appears to have the M's Navigation features. I never liked the previous unit due to the fact that you couldn't go to the radio's screen. It was only Navigation with the radio text down below.

    Lookin good Nissan!!!

Hmm. QX56 seems unchanged in the interior department despite earlier reports. I'm disappointed.

Much improved interior in the FX. I'm not a fan of the steering wheel, but I like that Infiniti took ideas and styling cues from the new M's interior. The previous FX seemed too cheap for a luxury brand. This is more like it.

That center stack is impressive and I like the contrast of black & silver, but there are wayyyy too many buttons going on there, and even something that looks like the horror that is BMW's i-drive. Also the analog clock looks like an afterthought and makes little sense in the overall scheme - what, can't the NAV screen display time in the corner?

That FX's interior looks great. Way better than the SRX

The analog clock is an Infiniti signature piece.
