What's OLDS is NEW Again - updated

Oldsmobile is back, and as we all know, it has swapped roles with Saturn.

That's right, folks, Oldsmobile will do battle with the small imports of the world, targeting the youth market, and bringing conquest sale after conquest sale, as kids realize that scions aren't really cool. Oldsmobiles are.

and with that, may i present the Oldsmobile Cutlass compact coupe, which targets such luminaries as the Scion TC, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Hyundai Tiburon, and the Oldsmobile Silhouette compact 5-door wagon, targeting all those other 5-door wagons out there.

comments are welcome. i also expect to revise the drawings a tiny bit to help them pop off the page with a touch more definition.

but please, let me know what you think.

and the new version... a bit cleaned up and re-presented.

well, i'm not gonna lie to ya, these are pretty well drawn!
but for some reason, i'm just not feelin any oldsmobile in it...i know it's a completely new design, but...i personally just findit hard to see as an olds. Perhaps it's because i'm gettin a mix of Chrysler/Fusion.
But nonetheless, it's a great design, keep up the great work!

Re: What's OLDS is NEW Again

    thanks.

i've taken a whole new twist on the olds design, starting witht eh logo. i'm not sure when its from exactly, but sometime in the 40's, they had a logo similar to this. i figure a reborn company can use a new old logo.

i don't think either of the two most recent badges (rocket-rectangle or aurora-A) would work for a new oldsmobile, and this was far easier than coming up with an entirely new badge!

the headlights are similar to the fusion's, which in turn are the late 90's prelude's. and i liked those.

but these are two vertical elements on each side. on the cutlass, they are separated by a thin swath of sheetmetal or bumper fascia. on the silhouette, the vertical elements sit side by side, but are visually distinct.

i think this is a nifty evolution of the 70s olds headlights with the two headlights separated by the small inset turn signal. i think that other than the split grille, the split headlights are as fairly typical an olds theme as can be found. i like to think that i've come up with a new way of evoking it.

the vertical split carries through to the tail lights as well.

also, i should point out one of the more fun, imo, design elements. the swoop under the "is new again" text is the side marker and rub strip. the globe would light up, and i envision the rib strip to be a tapering chrome strip, evoking the orbit disc in the hood badge.

(i hope that makes sense, and that it is also appealing)

also, i've hidden the rocket in teh front fascia, tho its easier to pick up on teh cutlass than the silhouette.

The minivan is already here and it's called Daewoo Tacuma/Chevrolet Rezzo

The coupe doesn't work for me either, thought this kind of front might be a nice idea for something new for Cadillac.
